There is something beautiful about the simplicity of the design of this turntable. I love the rich wooden base and the reflective, thick platter in particular.
I’ve been hankering after a record player for some time. Thorens TD160B MK 2 with SME Series 2 Improved tone arm and an Ortofon OM10 cartridge.
It’s cost me a bit less than a new Rega P2 with an ND3 so far. I don’t know how it would compare to that SQ wise but somehow this appealed more.
I don’t love the textured black paint finish on the plinth so might look into a new one in solid wood.

Looks quite good. Persistence seems to be worthwhile.

Robert Fuchs, Fuchs Systems, is a turntable and arm, plattenspieler und tonarme, designer and builder in Bavaria.
Minimally on the Internet, he also designs for others, like Sperling. He sometimes uses magnetic bearings on his tonearms.
For this one, he managed to balance the massive platter with non-symmetric elements, the silver and gold cylinders on the lower layers. Are they magnets? The extra-long arm reduces radial tracking error. Practically it needs to be on a stand so you don't have to kneel down to put a record on it. Maybe a granite machinist plate on a stand?

The pitch compensation feature is nice. One and the only that does this as far as I know, other than I've seen a DIY solution on VE that did this by varying speed along with the off-centre moving tonearm pattern (Technics platform).

The pitch compensation works flawless. In their former versions they only compensated for horizontal offsets but in this version also for vertical and the result is no wow effect anymore.
I have no idea. They developed this cartridge in house.
Basic idea is from 1940s Philco's 'Beam of light' phonograph player. But obviously more refined and precise. Stylus mass is reduced. Would be intresting to see how stylus is pivoted. Typical stylus has elastomer holding it.

Finally found an image of it on their website. Same basic design as DS Audio but way cheaper and a replaceable stylus.

The stylus is not seperatly replaceble. You need to replace the whole cartridge...
