Nice turntables. Attached picture is an absolute requirement.

I have been looking for a less than expensive lid for a clients table - this seems like worth a try.

Cheers

I hope that you have or can find the right compatability!

If you have ever remodeled a kitchen or bathroom, you may have met stone fabricators in your area. They import stone slabs about 2x3 meters, cut it with diamond saws, and polish the cuts with successive grades of diamond grit.

A stone fabricator in Bremerton, Washington is entering the stone turntable plinth business. The price is reasonable for a custom plinth, a deconstructed turntable for parts, and profitable for the stone fabricator.

I know that there were people doing this in the late 1970's, as I had a friend that had one.

That turntable has a major MAJOR flaw. I can take the fixed spindle and even the low-load plastic platter with plastic bearing 'sleeve,' but the plastic platter just rests on a washer, so when the meagre lubricant dries out, the platter all but seizes up and or gives huge wow (a neighbour has a suitcase player with one of these things in it).

At least BSR in the 60s (arguably overall the largest maker of record 'decks/chamgers' in the UK) on their economy single deck, had a bronze or similar sleeve running on a plain spindle and saw fit to graft a ball bearing on top of the record spindle which sat on the bearing spindle-top. Sadly, the ball can't be easily seen in the pic below (my 'Popular' was red and black and in my childhood enthusiasm, I 'mullered it' - surprised I didn't electrocute myself)...

This exact plastic mechanism is used in many cheap turntables, including most of the "vintage suitcase gramophone" toys. It is not good.

I grew up with a suitcase record player (a Webcor from the 50s), the knobs and tonearm were Bakelite, but no other plastic in the mechanism.

This is my filthy workhorse Technics. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Repaired/replaced busted dust cover hinges with metal ones. Audioquest sorbothane record mat. AT VM95SH tracking at 2.2g. Into a U Turn Pluto preamp, and out to my AVR.

I need to stick an AT3600L into the spare headshell. A friend is going to bring some warped records over next weekend and we’re going to see if we can cure that with a little extra VTF.

It's real all right and even the basic MMC5 pickup it comes with fetches a lot of money.

Here's mine from 1972 - Beogram 3000/SP12. Sounds very good - Apologies for my dire photography skills, I swear it's not the phone's camera as I have pics taken by someone else using this phone which are superb...

Nice job on that. I need to do the same with the SL-Q300 in our vacation house, but first I need to get a new black part (probably 3d printed).
