That's a Smyth Realizer! I have wondered whether they are as good as the reviews say. People say that it makes headphones sound like speakers. What do you think?

In my experience, that's definitely the case. To be be more precise, the Realiser allows you to emulate a specific loudspeaker setup including the room accoustics. In my case it's a Geithain RL 901K 5.1 setup in the Großer Seminarraum at the ETI in Detmold, Germany.
They have now a full-blown Auro 3D Installation. When I captured the room in 2011 with my Realiser A8 it was "only" 5.1. Fortunately, the A8 convolution files can be converted to the A16 format.
Perhaps I should try to make an upgrade in Detmold. But I have lost interest in movies more or less.
Later in the year I might buy an Nvidia Shield to render Apple Atmos music. When I upgraded to the A16 in 2018 I expected more Atmos music content to be produced because multichannel is clearly superior to two-channel stereo. I think I hoped in vain. But let's see.
As for the Smyth Realiser, before the advent of LLMs for me it was the most exciting echnology of the 21st century...
Cats pissed my area rug galldangit!!! Hauled off and naked floor offering some fresh bounce to my music hall. Looks clean though… View attachment 445402
This is my "vintage" Sony ES setup in a spare bedroom/computer/audio room. I sold audio/video back in the 90's/2000's and thought it would be cool to put together a period correct system for nostalgia purposes. It took a while but everything was sourced via Craigslist or Marketplace. I just acquired a period correct ES cassette deck that needs rehab. That will be incorporated once I install the new belts.
It is interesting (or sad depending how you look at it!) that equipment that was fairly expensive back in the day can be had for so cheap.
So far; TA-E9000 preamp, TA-N9000 amp, CDP-XA20ES CD player, ST-SA50ES and SS-M3 speakers with matching stands.
