Hi,
I'm no gamer - my son is - but I'm looking for a mixer or interface that would let him add line-in audio (music and clips from his phone) when he's playing and chatting on his xBox 360

This is partly as a wee Christmas present

Mostly though it's because his solution is to turn his phone volume up (through the phone speaker) loud enough so that it gets picked up on the microphone on his headset. It needs a fair volume to do that, and he plays late at night ... so this will also protect him from harm!! (that's a joke btw, but it's incredibly annoying and he has been warned)

I can't find anything to do that, I thought a mixer would be simple but it doesn't seem to be supported for the xBox

Any thoughts, or easy solutions?

Help protect a vulnerable teenager!

Playing background music while playing games with Xbox is easy with native Xbox apps like Spotify and similar, but clips? i am guessing he is watching YouTube or tik Tok on his cell while playing? if that the case I would use an IEM with transparency capabilities or better non-sealing IEM, while using his gaming headset.

That's exactly what he's doing - drives me nuts :)

What do you mean by 'use an IEM'? that he could wear two pairs of headphones?

Maybe I wasn't clear - he wants to share the phone audio with his friends - to mix the phone audio into the xBox audio ... I feel sure it should be possible, but I just can't find out how

I see; he wants to share music he is listening to with friends, hmm then I would keep one IEM in my ear and the other attached close to the mic, lol, probably would work well but he will be listening mono (he is listening to mono from the cell anyway but better quality sound from the IEM) but there would be more stress in one ear, hmm. or use 2 wired IEMs with a splitter , so the 2 IEMs have the same output, one to your ears and the other attached to the mic, haha, not stylish solution, let me see if I can find something better

@JeremyFife the most elegant solution would be a wireless gaming headset with multi device support.

These allow you to connect your console via 2.4GHz (headphone and mic) and your phone via Bluetooth, and you can play both simultaneously and they're mixed internally.

They're made by Steelseries, Astro, Razer, Logitech, but cost about $150-300.

Do you mean that he wants his friends to hear his phone audio as well?

So listening to his phone while also mixing it with his microphone so that his friends can listen in?
That might be difficult.

Other option, not using a game head seat, but a combination of an open back headphone and a good omnidirectional mic, which can pick the voice and the cell music with better balance, so he does not need to have cell volume too high, as far the mic is close to the cell will be pick up well. The major advantage is the increase quality of sound while gaming, as you have the option to use a good headphone, (personal experience) most head set headphone are crap sounding.

Or use a mini bluetooth speaker

Exactly that - he plays phone clips for his friends to hear while they are gaming.

Interesting.

The only solution that I can think of is to find an audio interface with both Mic input and Line input, that is compatible with the Xbox.

SteelSeries Gamedac 1st Gen. You can get them on eBay super cheap. Thank me later
