Hey everyone,

I'm not really sure if I'm referring to the correct parts, so I'll explain what I'm trying to achieve here.

I have a spare set of bookshelves that I wanted to use for music (Tidal direct). I was thinking of getting a Bluesound Powernode or Sonos amp to power them, but then I saw the Eversolo DMP-A6 and really like the look of it. For reference, all three options are within a few hundred of each other (Australia).

I already have an old Denon X4000 avr. I'd like to power the speakers from the avr, and use the Eversolo as the source.

As the Eversolo has its own DAC, is there a way for me to skip the DAC on the Denon? Is there a benefit to doing so?

I'd imagine I just need to use the unbalanced connectors and put the Denon in Pure mode to achieve this?

Thanks in advance.

Why not just use the Denon's DAC function?
It's what I would do.

read your manual on the 4000, its probably a telephone book

some units do not have passthru but in many cases its no big deal as a unit like the x4000 probably has dacs comparable to these newer devices anyway

The Denon X4000 comes with PCM1791A for the main zone and the AK4385 secondary zones.
Which would be fine enough for me.
You want to keep the audio signal in digital form, up until it gets to the DACs, to keep the signal clean.
So running digital into the Denon is best.

Got it. Thanks!

Saw this old thread and was curious about it. I have a denon x4000 and have never been happy with the dac. I use it for movies but any time I use analog inputs my music sounds way more alive. Noticed it first with my oppo cd player — using rca sounded better than di no matter with setting I chose. Been using rcas for all critical sources since then. Just got a Cambridge mxn10 and streaming is alive again (vs Apple TV hdmi inputs). Is there a setting in x4000 for crappy sound I need to disable?
