Hello!

Been working my way through a plethora of material here...its alot.

I have a pair of KEF Q300s, SL-D2 turntable, an old Amazon BT dongle, and finally a vintage pioneer SX-650.

We are looking to replace the unreliable SX-650 with something that can interact with our TV, Streaming services, and maybe an Xbox.

So...thoughts on the new WIIM amp ultra at $530 or I have a local option of a used Yamaha RX-v4a at $300 or a new v6a at $500.

Thanks

For stereo I would recommend the Wiim Amp Pro or Ultra easy. Unless you want the flexibility to add more channels down the line the receivers have no advantages IMO.

The WIIM Amp Pro would require a phono preamp.

I just bought an Amp, and was surprised to find it has Airplay2. The Pro and Ultra do not.

My KEF speakers have uniform impedance. I see no reason to have the Pro.

The original Amp was released before they had their whole rigamarole with Apple. They don't seem to have had to remove it from any products that already had it, just the ones that were released after.

Thanks for the replies.

Just so im tracking..

WiiM "ultra" appears to come with a phono/pre amp on board, little cheaper, gets everything rolling.

The newest "AMP ultra" will need something like a fosi X1 or P4 to run the turntable.

Is there any other differences? Newer chips?

Wiim Ultra has only one HDMI input. He did say "interact with TV and maybe an XBox". So he needs two HDMI inputs at least. I think the answer is "AVR".

Oh, and welcome to ASR!

Could signal travel xbox>tv hdmi in > tv optical out>wiim optical input?

Its currently connected to a 144hz hdmi non arc input. The 60hz arc is available but I presume I can't link the two pathways.

He could connect the Xbox and whatever else to the TV and just use HDMI ARC for the audio.

It depends on your view of adding more hardware to provide functionality. I don't like adding too many boxes. But, as @kyuu points out:

... this solution could also work.
