I wanted to share a short thread to announce the new streamer by Aiyima @709€
The device itself seems quite complete, although I have some doubts about the fairness of the price...

Aiyima DM100 | Owner's Thread [+ some basic measurements]

I bought DM100 from Amazon about a month back to see if it I could replace my surface pro and shield pro from media playback, audio library and Plex duties. Earlier I tried Pi4 which failed, then started looking to build Pi5 but then thought of trying DM100 with Amazon's 30 day return assurance...

It is HDMI out like any other computer which supports audio/video out, no ARC.

You miss the point - all other streamers with HDMI ports can take the ARC output from TV in order to play whatever is showing on the TV, as audio to your stereo system.

In the case of this streamer, unless that HDMI port can take ARC output from a TV, a lot of people will not be happy. I suspect the spec shown on the website may be wrong or incomplete.

Sure, a few streamers also have HDMI out in order to echo the front panel onto a TV screen, but really, the important function is to be able to pay TV audio without fussing with toslink or whatever from the TV. Being able to use CEC over HDMI is good too, for obvious reasons.

Also, for your statement above, consider that after 35 years of making them for for a living, I might know what a "computer" is!

I have DM100 and I can confirm it does not support ARC. You can see some measurements HERE if you like.

The issue is that on the DM100 website, ARC or eARC is not mentioned. What is mentioned is an HDMI port as an output - I see nothing on the webpage about how a user connects the ARC/eARC output from their TVs to the DM100 in order for it to pass audio to the speakers.

It may be that (as I said before) that the port works as input and output on this streamer, but it's not clear. It may be a translation thing. Compare the DM100 web info with the Wiim Ultra info (albeit it has DAC in it too) - see below

If you have this unit yourself, and and you say it plays audio from your TV, and has CEC controls for on/off and volume control from the TV remote, then I'm happy; case closed - but whoever put the data on the webpage, may want to be clear about this, in case some buyers are put off, wrongly thinking it won't integrate their TV's audio, when nearly all well-featured streamers can.

I totally agree that they could mentioned "no HDMI ARC support" or something similar to avoid confusion, but they chose not to.

So to close the case as you say - No, TV audio does not work on HDMI port. And when connected DM100 HDMI to eARC/ARC HDMI port on TV, my TV does say that eARC/ARC isn't supported on connected device.

The HDMI output mirrors the screen to an external monitor or TV.

This is not insignificant. It holds the distinction of being the only streamer on the market with a native Apple Music app capable of 24/192 hi-res AND able to output to an external display.

Can anyone verify whether the included remote can fully navigate the AM app?

That's great if you want to look at 55-100" of tags and cover-art.
As per my original point, not having ARC/eARC input (and CEC) for TV sound is a show stopper for me.

Yes, it is described as a transport in the link in the first post. €709 seems expensive to me for something that will not/cannot have measurements concerning its audio quality - it just squirts bits out. If the user interface and supporting apps are great, that would help justify it.
As for "moot", my guess is that a popular feature for streamers (with or without DACs and/or amps), is ARC input for TV audio, in preference to a TV display (if as you say, that's what it does) of the data that is already be on the unit's front panel display and also their phone/tablet app.

I appreciate people have different needs, but many I think, will buy a Wiim, or similar, for half the price - I'll leave it at that!
