new Revox B77 MKIII tape machine

That is not a 77B III
No, it is not. The PR 99 was a pro version of the B 77, and the Sonorus coincidentally comes in at more than double the amount of the re-released B 77.
Still the bones of a B 77. Frame, motors, heads.
Sonorus calling it an ATR is an insult to the Ampex ATR line, can't tell if intentionally so.
But there is certainly more to the tape path than just throwing another roller, or roller guides in. But that's another subject.
My point is simply this, one can pick up a nice example of a B 77 or a PR 99 for that matter - for under 1500.- and pay a tech another, say 800.- or so, to service it and to bring it up to spec. Just takes time and effort to hunt a nice one down.

Revox an buyers get now (again) acuinted with Wow & Flutter but now for 16.000 euro  . Something you really wanted to avoid as much as possible in the 70ties an 80ties which i did buying a 3 head Nakamichi BX300 at the time. Recording digital was a dream come true. What are they thinking at Revox €$?
They think they can sell them, and they are right!

There are people convinced that that their pre-recorded Reel with Michael Jackson's Thriller (which sells for $400) or thereabouts sounds better than anything else, so.... to each their own i guess.;)

How much media has actually been released on R2R tape?

I think it looks cool, but I after spending that much coin, how much music would I actually be able to listen to with it?
Not a lot,

for just 1 "typical album" released on that format you can buy a state of the art DAC , and for 2 you can buy a DAC and a streamer.

But I agree those machines look very cool:D
