New Revel Performa4 / Arcam Radia speaker line-up -- with Anechoic EQ

Hello everybody )
I have F36 about a year (mounted on Soundcare Superspike). Anplifier powered with their is AVM Evolution CS5.2 all-in-one unit, power cord Neotech NEP-3001 III, acoustic cables SAEC SPC-1000. I'm listening to most of rock, hard rock, metall, sometimes jazz, blues, soul, funk (total 10%). Listening room is 3.7x 5.5 meters. Distance between loudspeakers is 2 meters, to the listening position 2.7 meters. In principle I like thw sound a lot! But :) sometimes I think about what will I get if I change F36 to Performa. For instance 228Be. I understand 228 is larger. I worried about the low frequency modes.....

The beryllium tweeter in the PerformaBe extracts more detail which you notice in classical chamber music and jazz with acoustic instruments. There is greater realism from PerformaBe with the detail in acoustic instruments. But the Concerta2 is great for rock, metal, hard rock.

Concerta2 is close to optimal for a passive speaker for electric instrument music, but PerformaBe is worth it if you listen to classical chamber music in particular. You might benefit more from keeping the Concerta2 models and using EQ for room modes below 300hz if you can give the measurements of the space?

Unfortunately I don't have a tool for measurements now. However I don't hear now any artefacts in bass response.

The latest versions of the measurement on the WiiM app even works with your phone microphone, though it might not be very accurate.

If you play an album like "Sunday at the Village Vanguard" by the Bill Evans Trio and the bass doesn't sound overpowering?

I didn't listened to this album, sorry. I'll try and come back )

Go with F328Be’s, of course ;)

OMG, it's too big for my room! I don't have an access neither NOS no used in RF :( only F208 or F228Be

I haven’t experienced them personally, but the F228Be have gotten great reviews.

Revel PerformaBe are still the best passive speakers in the world in their price range for classical chamber music and I believe they are still available.
I bought a pair of the F226be about a year and a half ago when they were on sale for $4000/pair and still think I got away with highway robbery. It's always tricky to say "best," but these speakers make quite a case for themselves at this price range and for acoustic music. You can get different sound, but not better sound without going well into the 5 digits.

Hello. Acoustic music 1% in my list. I see, that F36 is more suitable for me at this moment. Next level with more detail and lower bass is increasing budget in 3-4 times. I can purchase used F228Be but the price for it 8000$. It's quite unreasonable price for my opinion.

Correct it’s not worth it. Slow and steady…and enjoy the music until an amazing deal pops up.

Hey everyone - as I mentioned before in this thread we will be holding an Open House Listening Party this summer based around the new Performa4s and comparing them side by side with PerformaBe, the Perlisten S7t / A3t / R5m, some previous generation Performa3s and hopefully the new JBL Synthesis SCL10XL.

People are also free to bring their own speakers to compare.

While the test won't be double blind, we plan to put some controls in place so we can compare the speakers on a level playing field. We'll be talking about the blind listening events we and others have held in the past and diving deep into the amazing research that Drs. Toole and Olive have done to move the art and science of speaker design forward - something we all know ASR is also a big proponent of. We will have food and drink and there will be special promo pricing on Revel Performa4 and Be, but mainly this event is a big chance for people to geek out about speaker science and do some serious listening.

I will post more here once we narrow down dates and times.

Another worry apart from the lack of beryllium tweeters going forward, is that Mark Glazer has recently retired from Revel and he was responsible for designing their greatest speakers in the past.
With META materials having advantages over Beryllium ( objectively/measured) and being refined by several manufacturers working with TPCD and as group, the industry has an answer.
