New product - SMSL AO300

It has never happened to me before.

If you switch the inputs and back again in this situation, do you get a sound?

Please do the following in this order.

- Do a factory reset via the menu

- Switch off the device at the front

- Switch off the device at the back

- Unplug the power cord

- Switch on the device at the back

- Switch on the device at the front (still without the power cable)

- Plug the power cord back in

- Switch the device back on and do a factory reset again

Please test whether the problem still exists.
Thanks for the advice.
At first I tried to simply turn off the power with the button on the back of the amplifier for a couple of minutes. After that I turned it on and the sound appeared immediately. I left it running for 20 hours, then turned it off via the remote control for 4 hours. After turning it on there was no sound again.
I will continue to try via reset and disconnecting the power cable as you wrote.

No sound.

Выключатель питания или кнопка на пульте дистанционного управления? Я включал свой 24/7 и использовал пульт дистанционного управления, чтобы перевести его в режим ожидания, и не было никаких проблем!
If I turn the amplifier on or off with the remote or knob for a couple of minutes, everything works. As far as I noticed, the problem appears after a long shutdown, at least for an hour or several hours. I did not check exactly.

So after using this amp for a couple of hours first time after I switched off my TV the ao300 died. Kaput. Can someone explain maybe what happend?

There was probably a potential difference between the TV and the amplifier.

Amir tested the SMSL RAV-HA1 amplifier. Since its circuitry is similar to the SMSL AO300, we can use these measurements for it too.
Just an update and more info on what happened. When connected ao300 to TV via hdmi arc, everything was fine, I watched a full movie and sound was perfect, no drop outs or anything. Soon as I turned off my TV the amp made a loud popping sound through the speakers and powered off and wouldn't power back on. So I left the unit unplugged for a while then plugged it in again and turned it on and to my surprise it came back on. So maybe there is a problem via hdmi connection? Also I don't know what firmware it has, so maybe needs the new update?

Ah, then it was different. During the transient processes when turning off, your TV generated a impulse at its output that has overloaded the amplifier. The amplifier has entered protection mode, its output circuits was disabled. This mode can be eliminated by turning off the amplifier. The problem here is not in the firmware, and not in amplifier, but in transient processes of your TV. If the TV has an optical output, try connecting the amplifier to it.

Oh ok. Thanks for the clarification. So basically I have to turn the amplifier off first before turning off the TV? Alternatively I will try the optical connection and to be honest I don't really need hdmi arc as I can control the volume on the ao300 instead and not a problem for me.

Hi everyone!
I am waiting for my SMSL AO300 amplifier to be delivered. In this thread I read about possible problems - POP and other noise, which may be solved after firmware update (if such problems appear). I emailed SMSL for the firmware, as this item is missing from the website. Response from SMSL: “There is no new version of firmware for AO300”. Where can I get it?
Thanks in advance!

I had a 2023/4 model and no issues at all. If the item is new it will be already shipped with the latest firmware.

Yes, it's true, when it arrives, it will already have the latest firmware, but if it's still different or there's a problem with it, I recommend this version, it's really stable for me.

Hi everyone, what do you think after this device, which D-class amplifier to buy? With the best sound quality ?

Purifi and Hypex amplifiers have low distortion. ( Apollon and Buckeye are good brands)
I upgraded from the SMSL AO300 to the new NAD M10 V3 (Hypex Ncore, 32-bit/768kHz Sabre DAC ES9039, ...)

You can find alot of these amps on google and this forum.

It's very expensive for me, my friend.
