New Philharmonic BMR HT Towers

It's likely an error. According to the spin above, 32Hz is roughly the F10.
I would go a step further and say the F10 is at around 40 Hz, but I could be reading that wrong. I will add that if you want more extension without a sub the original BMR towers go lower and have excellent low end output.
 
Am real happy with my Ascend Ascoustics ELX-RAAL. They have it all. Open port, they go deep and powerful. I cross over at 70 Hz to 3 15"subs. Plugged the ports with closed cell foam swim noodles.

If zoomed in and using the 85db mark the F3 is around 43hz (higher, as usual, compare to the anechoic number), and the F10 around 33hz, both which can vary of due to the actual room gain of course.

Just as a note, I wasn't trying to deter anyone from using a sub, just full range is acceptable without it for most music. I went back and forth with my Salk Encore 3 v1 on running them full range or getting subs, I ended up using the subs, crossing at 100hz even though the speakers get into the high teens in room. I originally just bought the subs because of the room being large. Hope everyone is just enjoying the music :)
 
Price on these ($4400/pair) is going up soon. No word on how much. There are a few left at that price.
 
and i ordered a pair of the remaining few a couple days ago, scheduled delivery this saturday. woo-hoo!!!
I think it's a steal in that finish for that price.
 
As I've described previously, I've been using my BMR Towers in my small home theater. As they're not specifically designed for this purpose, I've kept the listening distance short (2 meters), they're crossed over to subwoofers at 80hz, my listening reference volume calibrated to my Yamaha CX5100 using the supplied microphone is roughly 85dB.

While I'm generally very happy with this set up, perhaps not surprisingly the weak point is SPL. I've been watching Bladerunner 2049 as my grueling test case, and it appears at least with respect to this movie soundtrack I have little to no headroom (I'm using Hypex NC400 monoblocks for amplification). There is an early scene when the flying car is landing at the protein farm which caused my Towers sufficient distress that they were making snapping sounds which I suspect was the woofer reaching its limit at 88dB average.

I hooked up my calibrated UMIK-1 microphone and played this section back using the Real Time Analyzer in REW at 85 dB, so just under the point where things start sounding dangerous. The problem is certainly not the tweeter, it is right at the crossover point where the subs hand off to the Towers that SPL peaks (see attached). The average SPL is not scary high at all, it is just this (mid) bass, at 88dB those peaks are over 100 dB. I guess the issue is High Dynamic Range, but I am nevertheless somewhat disappointed that the system is not handling transient peaks of just over (perhaps) 100 dB. Should I be?

The raw driver by itself is 1% @70hz @100dB, so you shouldn't be hearing anything that stands out at your 80hz crossover with 4 drivers at 2m. Which su woofer are you using and have you tried raising the crossover to 100hz to see if that lessens what you're hearing?
 
The BMR towers each have a single 8" Scan-Speak Revelatory woofer, so only two drivers. The two subwoofers are Monolith M12 v2 units which should absolutely no issues with what they're being asked to do. I haven't done anything yet except retreat from the volume knob...

My bad, thought you had the HTs. The same would go for the Scanspeak driver, should have no major issues with distortion that high up, certainly not enough to sit up and take notice. More investigation would be required.
 
I realize this forum exists for discussion of the HT Tower, the sister speaker to the BMR Tower. But now I'm thinking I've found out why there are two drivers per HT tower. My impression of what I heard was something reaching its mechanical limit, my amplification should be more than adequate.

I don't own either but considered them in depth before purchasing my Salon2. I recall that the spl level was specifically brought up with regards to BMR Tower vs. HT Tower in determining which was the better fit for people
 
Granted, but when I got my BMR Towers, the HT was no more than a gleam in Dennis Murphy’s eye.
 
I love getting notifications to this thread, but it keeps generating more questions for me: ScanSpeak Revelator 8" vs 2X Purifi 6.5" vs. Dual Aluminum 6.5".... RAAL vs AMT :)
 
I would very much like to be corrected, but at this point the answer appears to be different horses for different courses.
