New Philharmonic BMR HT Towers

I think we usually say cost-performance ratio or C/P. I never actually saw a number.

Right. But then wouldn't the cost-performance ratio (C/P) be *low* for the Cantabile compared to the other two towers? You said higher.

Maybe it would be best to just say the C/P is "better?"

(If off-topic a dedicated Cantabile thread would be good.)
HT towers are endgame, but I intend to reach my endgame on a budget. As such 90db versus 86db means I don't have to immediately upgrade my Topping PA5II, I think.
$3300/pair vs $4400 is the deal maker also.
Shipping to Europe threatens to be the deal breaker. Say it ain't so.

Curious why you're even thinking of new speakers if you're trying to reach endgame on a budget?
Depreciation on new speakers is brutal for the owner. As a buyer of used equipment that is one of the few opportunities to meaningfully save money while not sacrificing on quality.

I bought my last speakers 20+ years ago.
The PA Cantabile pair cost in the low thousands.
I have often bought used amplifiers and sources just not speakers though I have no demonstrable rationale to say why or how.

While I agree about buying used can be a real benefit, Dennis's speakers hold their value pretty well compared to many. The HT could easily be end game for many, especially w/ a sub (not needed for most all music), and at their price a serious bargain. I peruse the classified ads every day and have seen a lot of good deals, just not on Philharmonic and rarely on Salk. Although, one of the really good used deals I've seen lately was on Salks, the BePure 2, for $4500 (standard veneer). That's a two way bass reflex with 6.5" Purifi woofers and a Satori Be tweeter, a nicer cabinet that's 17# heavier than the HT. Basically the same price as the HT which is a 3 way MLTL with a simpler cabinet and fewer finish options, making the HT a bargain already.

There aren't a lot used, although they do pop up like these two gloss ebony HT's although they are US. Cantible should be ok, I just wouldn't do black.

I replaced my Ascend Sierra Towers with Revel F228Be. The Ascend speakers sat around the house for 18 months until my wife pushed me to put them on Craigs list. I was surprised how they sold within 24 hours. There must be a few speaker buffs watching those ads. :D

Well those are iconic speakers to say the least. You probably undervalued them as they have gone out so quickly. But nothing wrong with that, I actually don't even sell spare speakers, just keep them in the basement for unlikely event of needing a spare.

it's hard to part with stuff you like.. I have no plans to ever sell my emotiva b1's that Dennis Murphy modded.. they aren't much to look at but I sure like listening to them , when I "upgrade" to bmr monitors or something similar the b1's will just get a role as "bedroom" speakers...

I had such a difficult time parting with my BMR monitor because I consider it a miracle of consumer engineering and pricing. And the curved satin walnut is simply gorgeous.

But I ain't got room or money to keep expensive speakers I can't use any more.

@Mort I get it... My fix to the issue is: I'm quitting at that next level up, whether it's BMR monitors or maybe something similar, I'm gonna be done chasing , I've heard the bmr's .. I know for sure that they are enough for me..I'm tempted to quit upgrading right now, I could live with the b1s indefinitely... Sub integration imo is more important than any upgrades I could do past the bmr's or similar quality speakers....

That's an exciting problem to solve. At the end of the day, I could not get the volume out of the BMR monitors that I demand. (In fact I blew a woofer testing it.) So I went with the HT towers, which I consider their best product.

With all we have at our disposal to tune/tweak, at the end it is still the SPL that we are bound to. Not to undermine other important characteristics like dispersion or distortion, but if you like it loud, or just want to have ability to play loud when in the mood, then that's the first gate.

I'm a bit surprised that the raal didn't crap out before the woofer...when / if I get bmr's I'm going to get the AMT version for fear of the availability issue with the raal that Dennis spoke of becomes a reality....

I think Dude over there is only producing Tweeters to-order, not building and stocking, any longer. His site also changed, and now all orders must be pre-paid before any work will begin. Lead time is also something like 1-2 mos. Madisound used to stock his Tweets, but currently the only items listed are replacement ribbons for the 140-15 and 70-10 models.

Dunno what the crux of int all is, but consider all the supply and shipping issues that started during covid, with a war raging not to far away, and then throw some serious political turmoil on top of that with the tariffs and whatnot...

Hopefully they aren't going anywhere and a good dose of global stability will make them a little more friendly to order from, assuming common sense and caring for our neighbors and friends returns as a priority.

From their site:

this would be good... i'm not gonna hold my breath on things getting better in that part of the world anytime soon though...it sure seems that chaos is the constant denominator...

I was running them full range with bass heavy content.

I still kinda want a matching BMR Center w/ a super wide center presentation w/ a much wider sweet spot for vocal/dialogue coverage, it kinda bothers me that they also dont use purifi woofers to match the HT Towers or Super BMR Monitor
