New Philharmonic BMR HT Towers

Passive radiators produce the same alignment as a port. On the plus side, they don't suffer from port noise. On the minus side, they're more expensive and require more real estate on the cabinet. However, neither the big BMR tower nor the HT has any problems with port noise. The Purifi woofers don't lend themselves to port designs in a small cabinet. The required port is just too long. That's why the March monitor uses a passive radiator. However, a port is practical in a tower design, particularly when it's used as part of a mass loaded transmission line implementation.

Now I have to wonder which of these towers that do have the best sound quality ?
It also a different tweeter and different bmr’s .
And lower distortion in the new model ?( The of tower has no distortion spec )

Secondary if your prepared to integrate subwoofer(s) does the game change then ?

Where is the port?

Interesting. I've wondered before why more manufacturers don't employ passive radiators.

This mostly comes from my experience of having various Thiel speakers in my home, all of which used a passive radiator and all of which, to my ear, sounded
particularly excellent in the bass - no sense of "port chuff/augmentation" that I could ever sense, just really nice, clean, tonal bass.

I swear I've sensed wind from a porthole as I was sitting. Just a sharp strong wind. Some speakers must move some air through those portholes.

I know what you mean. Maybe not "wind" per se but a sort of similar sensation, where it's like bass notes are accompanied by or augmented by a sort of "puffing" sensation in to the room.

Towers sounds like a steal to me,oozes quality,I love the looks and the 8 inch Scan Speaks are of proved value.
I would definitely put them in my list if I was on the other side of the Atlantic.

They are gorgeous in Zebrawood.
EDIT: The image shown may be Ebony?

What would be the total cost in Europe?

With a nice metal foot like the kef references, it would looks like a very pretty tower. Looks awesome, i like how looks like the tower so much.

I have a question, there would be a '' BMR HIFI '' ? but you know the oposite of this one, tuned for maximum extension rather than maximum woofer headroom.

The idea is good, but this would work better for a lot of people if there is no port or a good 80hz filter for the tower for easy pair up with subwoofers.. what is painfull to the users is xcross the passive speaker to 80hz, you know let the mains only do the 80hz-20khz range.

Thank you for the space!
best regards

im asking for a new one, not the previous with the 8'' but with the purifi and these new tweeters
We're limited in the number of models we can offer due to the factory's minimum order requirements. In any event, the two 6.5" woofers are never going to dig as deep as the 8" Revelator, and 99% of users would probably never exceed the power handling capability of the original tower in a dedicated music setting.

Ah I see, i just don't want subs. Maybe is just better change for the tweeter from the previous for the new one?, it's lower distortion than the previous one if i'm correct?

Thank you for the time.

It's a tradeoff. The RAAL ribbon is a little smoother and has broader horizontal dispersion, although the AMT is no slouch. And the new model of the RAAL 64-10 does quite well in distortion tests. I should have a plot somewhere. It's only at extreme playback levels that I think you might hear a difference in power handling.

At higher volumes at low frequencies, you can get 10m/sec flow, or more.

Yes the zebra wood finish is nice and all but HT needs a low lustre matte/flat black finish option too. Glare = bad.
