New Neumann stuff announcing Friday 9/12

I would really like to see cardioid bass from Neumann.

Me too!

A long established (iirc, former East) German brand whose name escapes me makes a few ranges of speakers mostly(?) for the broadcast industry including several cardioid models

The great-grandfather of the O310, the Klein+Hummel O92, was available in two versions in 1976. One had a normal rear panel and the other had a resonating rear panel (with a red sticker) to cancel out certain bass frequencies. I don't think it's rocket science. If it were so crucial to the sound, there would be more than 3 or 4 companies doing it.

To reminisce a little bit about the past:

At first look you are like "that's pretty decent" and then you notice the scaling...

Well, I find that pretty decent considering the scaling, especially compared to their competitors in this era.

Oh, I didn't mean it this way: I am so used to the 50dB scaling, that on first look I assumed something like that with each horizontal line representing 1dB and thought "pretty decent!". Then I realised that it actually is a 20dB scale and each horizontal line represents 0.5dB and was blown away.

Why this obsessionnal question about supposed new soon released Neumann monitors is coming back again on ASR forum ?
Neumann monitors range is excellent now, as it is.
Maybe not as extensive as Genelec nor innovative as other new brands, but still very good.
For instance the KH310 is on the market since 10 years and maybe more. Yep, it doesn't has a DSP nor super recent amplification or drivers, and so what ?(as Miles Davis would have said). The fact is this model is an excellent speaker, very reliable, neutral, precise with an extended response in the bass and a respectable SPL max for its size and price, and it's pleasant to listen to. A lot of professionnals, especially in the classical music field, still rely on it. many music lovers enjoy its sound.

Perhaps a new version is on the way, sooner or later. Sure it will be even better, sure it will be more expensive.

But, all of you folks craving for a new model, just ask yourself why you absolutely wish and need a new one ?

It's a forum where people tend to speculate about things and we have some information from the Neumann firmware that there are in fact some new models coming.

Because I want to upgrade my old monitors and I don't want to buy 310s which will be immedietaly superceded by the upgraded model the moment it's released? It's not like those monitors cost 100$ each so for me it's a rather big decission. Neumann could at least say something like - we're planning to release something some new monitors in 2026 or 2027

... so nobody buys the current models for the next 1 or 2 years? That would be stupid, and dangerous for Neumann.

According to an email that I received from the Neumann support a DSP version of the KH310 and 420 will be released in the first two quarters of 2026.

If this is confirmed : I write "if" because according to the threads about Neumann on ASR, it's more than 18 months now that some people have received supposed sure informations about a short time release of new monitors versions, in notably for the KH310, and though nothing has come out yet .

I hope the change between the actual version and the next one will not only the adding of a DSP. Of course, DSP filtering, EQ and calibration is an improvement compared to a traditionnal active filter, especially in terms of more flexibility. But, as for intrinsic sound quality itself, A DSP doesn't change it that much.
Moreover it's always possible to EQ and calibrate an analog active speaker by using an external sofware, with good effects.

So I hope Neumann will also rework a bit the amps, the drivers, maybe the cabinet itself.

The question is :
1- when at last it will be released ? because I don't take for granted any information or rumor at the moment.
2- what will be the price inrease ?

So, if you really focused on the KH310, I'm not sure it's worth the wait. And if everyone's waiting the new one, it will fragilize the short time sales revenue of this company.

it's quite a strange economic strategy for Neumann to let informations circulate and rumors increase if nothing comes. Once again, it's like this since more than 18 months !
I understand a short time teasing for a new model, but not this kind of long term bevahiour.

While the KH 310 might be a perfectly cromulent speaker on its own, its age is catching up to it.

To some extent, it's being overshadowed by how performant the KH120II and the KH150 are. It's also lacking key functionalities present in those speakers, not everyone wants to add a subwoofer to add DSP and room correction capabilities.

And there's also that Neumann is a company whose products genuinely improve from generation to generation, it is unlike a lot of other audio companies where a new generation simply brings another "flavour" and tonality rather than actual upgrades. So it is a bit exciting to see what Neumann can do with improvements from driver technology and amplification technology.

Of course, this is assuming the trend set from their previous speakers continues. Neumann could also just add DSP and MA1 to the updated KH310 and that would be a disappointment.
