New Neumann stuff announcing Friday 9/12

Same here with my 3 KH420 in my living room HT system. Good Class D amps were not readily available when they were developed. Otherwise they are perfect.

Soon the KH310 will celebrate it's bar mitzvah for being 13 years old
Don't know what's taking them so long with the KH310 II

OTOH, they probably still sell quite well, and (for me as a user) there's little to complain about, maybe except the missing standby option.

Neumann is a very conservative speaker brand, even that actual 310 is largely a rebranded Klein & Hummel O300 from 1990 (first presented) with minor upgrades. This is the O300.

Senheiser bought the brand in 2009 (and named the speaker the O310 and rebranded it to Neumann (also owned by Senheiser) in 2012 as the KH310 that we know. And this one is based on older models, this layout and concept is going back long ago... An ancestor that i know about is the O98, that partly overlapped (during the 90's) in their catalogue but is originally from 1982. So you see there is a lot of time between generations, and they often overlap each other. Klein & Hummel were locally in Germany and in lesser degree continental Europe very known for very high quality studio monitors since the late 60's and supplied a lot of (often custom) gear (not only speakers) to the German broadcast industry (their roots) during their most successfull period.

Indeed, but also, we have seen the KH 310 II and the KH 350 names appear in the files of Neumann software at the same time as the names of the new series of subwoofer appear, and the latter ones have been released. And it also seems that Neumann has been talking to their partners about updates to their KH 310 series for at least two years.

This. And, I wish more companies would let a good thing be a good thing, instead of "improving" it until it's broken.
At some point it gets really outdated, yes, but it takes time, when it's really good.

There is probally an update in the making, that is true, but it can take years before it appears on the market. I would not count on a fast release knowing the brand...

Don't think so
13 years is a lot of time even for a conservative brand
Also they can apply the same exact upgrades of the KH120 II/KH150 to the KH310 II
Mainly a better woofer +DSP

AFAIK the woofer was the major improvement of the KH310 over the O300D, something like 7 dB higher SPL at the same distortion level in the lows. I don't think a new woofer would offer the same amount of improvement.

I stayed with the O300D because I use a sub, so the better woofer of the KH310 would not make much of a difference.

Not specifically about any Neumann model: the baffle & or box volume would need changing and maximum spl might no longer be as high but there would be a reduction in distortion from using Purifi drivers. Given thier low sensitivity most likely requiring a more powerful amp

Enough changes that probably, it’d no longer be (eg) a 310. though if it were, maybe an additional variant/ model, which might be called a 310 P

The format of dates is different in different countries

Was Friday 9/12 referring to September 12 or December 9?
