Hopefully their claims that it matched their monitors is met versus the disappointment in the NDH20.

A modernised HD650 more extended on both ends would be the dream target for this. Especially considering the build. The NDH20 felt incredibly solid

My head isn't solid enough though to bear it :D. I didn't find them that comfortable, and there isn't a lot of room for one's ears even though the cups are quite large. I wish Neumann had rather taken inspiration from physical designs such as the HD 700 given the parent company.

Are there any indications that this NDH-30 in fact is not just a NDH-20.... with holes?

Everything is up in the air until a unit gets assessed somehow, preferably on a fixture as we all know how reliable most reviewers' ears are... I, for one, would be interested in a unit if the performance lived up to the marketing.

...except for the earpads: Mine burst open after only two years. Replacement pads: EUR 60 x.x

have there been any decent closed-back headphones from sennheiser/neumann by the way?
I feel like there was only NDH20 and HD820 that got the spotlight, but one is overly expensive while sounding not that great, and the other sounds alright but still underwhelming

Not yet. If you feel like accelerating the process, consider purchasing a unit and shipping it to Amir in the US or to oratory1990 in Austria to be measured.

With the NDH30 Neumann claims that the sound is comparable to an MA-1 calibrated system, which I'm also using.
In order to achieve that they should be a big upgrade over the NDH20.

I owned the NDH20 and those where a real disappointment to me.
Their dip in the mid was way too strong, making everything sound too muffled.

It'll be interesting to see some measurements.

U will get the measurements as soon as they are ready. If oratory is in the forum he could also provide them by himself

I got a message today from Neumann that unfortunately they can’t provide a testunit. Shit. Maybe later….

HD 380 Pro had somewhat of a cult status years ago. They are long out of production now AFAIK. I grabbed a showroom/demo unit last year and yeah, it's impressive. Quite comfy too - large cups, light but with substantial clamp. The stiff pads are the only downside for me - the loss of bass is super evident even with thin frame glasses.

It seems to me that these headphones are just a gift :p for all kinds of tuning and endless modifications.
And I have never seen, but I have seen quite a lot of disassembled headphones, where such driver (Sennheiser 528480) damping is used.

This curve is pretty accurate. I just got a set and have been listening to mixes and find them a little more heavy on the low-end and light on the high-end. Applying this curve to the headphones makes it very similar to the sound I hear out of my MA-1 calibrated KH310s. Also, because of the placement of the driver (forward in the cups), it's kind of difficult to ensure you're always hearing what you should hear. Moving the headphones forward or backward drastically changes the sound. You kind of have to feel around to find the right placement but when you hear it, you hear it and you should be set but it's mildly frustrating (for now).
