New Neumann MA 1 - Automatic Monitor Alignment

Hello Florian75,
To achieve best results especially regarding stereo image you should have a equilateral triangle. If that‘s not possible MA 1 still corrects for different loudspeaker distances (which is not the case in your arrangement) and of course for tonality and room modes. I propose to give in 85 cm in MA 1. Important is, that the 1 measurement position is exactly at your preferred listening position. The result should be significantly improved with MA 1. I hope you will like it.

Best regards,

Markus

Thank you so much Markus.

I also asked Neumann directly. They said I should do 2 separate corrections : one by entering the tweeter-tweeter length and another one with tweeter-listening position and keep the one I prefer.

I find it weird that that dont give you the possibility to enter the 3 lengths and adjust, but in a sense, ultimately, since the software fixes was the microphones hears, the distances are maybe not that important :)

Hey just received my Neumann kh120 ii and I just want to turn the leds off, I have downloaded the ma1 software but I can't get past this page, any thoughts?

https://ma1.neumann.com/manual

The info for connecting and setting up is in that link. Once you have everything setup, just click the gear icon in the upper right where you can set the logo brightness to 0%.

Thanks,
Although as i don’t have an audio interface it won’t let me progress past the page i linked. I am using a macbook and it asks for an audio interface.

I see. I had assumed that you had the MA1 room calibration equipment. Anyway, please disregard my post.

You can try sending Neumann an email for your inquiry. I've done it before when I was figuring out some confusion with the MA 1 room correction before and they replied to me within 48 hours.

Please try using version 2.9.9. In previous versions, you should have been able to proceed without selecting an audio interface.
If you are experiencing problems communicating with speakers in version 2.9.9, please also refer to the following.

Thanks, how do i get the older version for Mac?

Does anybody know how to calibrate with speakers that are not connected to the sub25outs of the sub?
All my speakers are connected to an audient oria interface - I have successfully calibrated the kh150 left and right (amazing results!) for a 2.0 config
I cannot do the same with my 870ii sub though? it gives me a warning about bass management and i have to tell the MA1 software that the speakers are connected to the sub for the software to allow me to continue and try and calibrate - which it cant as I am guessing it is passing test tones to the subd?

I’m not really knowledgeable here but I think you’ll always need to connect the monitors to the subs since the calibration will set high pass low pass filters for the subs and monitors. I’ve connected and calibrated them all digitally with a mix of bnc-rca cables. I did that with an e2x2 otg interface and an optical to Spdif converter in between the interface and the subs. Once the calibrations are done just disconnect them all and use it in the usual configuration.

thanks for help - it just seems like it could be done so easily without routing through the sub - I have all neumann speakers and software - there should totally be an option to set filters on interface and then calibrate - now i have to buy to sub-d cables - and then after calibration i am supposed to guess??? what filters the sub applied? very dissapointing - even more so as the 2.0 calibration that it lets me do is WONDERFUL!

yes, unfortunate in some cases. we can't set the crossover we want as well. i believe its fixed at 80. to overcome all these limitations we would need something like a minidsp shd.

The MA 1 software just got an update which brought with it firmware updates for my KH120 II DSP monitors.

I just found out that despite the requirement for analog XLR connections between the loudspeakers and subs as seen in the connection diagram for stereo sub alignment, I'm now able to replace those cables with a pair of RCA to BNC digital cables to each of the KH 750 DSP subs as long as I specifically select BNC connections for both of the KH 120 IIs and correctly specifying the output channels in the MA 1 system setup. It seems like this is still not documented by Neumann yet in the MA 1 online manual and the MA 1 app itself..

Basically this:

Can now be connected this way:

By the way, this only works with Stereo Subwoofer Drive Mode and not Uniform Subwoofer Drive Mode.

I went ahead and did a new alignment. The measured and aligned results are similar but it just gives me piece of mind that there's one less ADC-DAC step in the audio signal chain.
