New mysterious Genelec monitors

8381 were indeed angled downward, but they weren't aimed at listener

horrendous review format there

but its kind of funny how all these experts came to a common conclusion... these are technically amazing but it tends to be a bit emotionless, however you can define 'emotion' in a speaker

They’re probably missing the sense of envelopment a wide dispersion speaker gives.

Another weird thing is
He used Roon normalization
And connected the streamer to an external DAC and a preamplifier only then to the monitors
Does it make any sense ?

Anyone here too used to general reproduced sound ever heard live unamplified music and found the 'sound' emotionless rather than the 'performance' (hopefully you get what I mean here)? So many audiophiles listen to the gear and the sound rather than the music.

It’d be awful hard to separate the imposing looks of these massive Darth Vaders looming over you from your impressions of their sonic attributes. It’s much easier to describe nice wood enclosures as being warm and emotional. These look cold and sterile, that’s gotta influence your experience of them.

I can assume the 8381 is the same as the cast aluminum clam shell Ones. They don't impress with what they do they do the trick with what they don't do.
I know what you mean
But that impressed me the most when I auditioned the 8361
It was like listening to pure sound without any speakers
Super transparent
Could be too much for some

That's a benefit of having a neutral monitor. I can insert an outboard EQ, notch down 200-400, shelf up 6k, add an 1176 compressor and make a scene. Rock on! Unpatch those pieces and back to ground zero.

If you watch Part 1 of his review it sounds like Genelec actually sent him these for review.
I gotta say that’s a very strange decision by Genelec.

I expected them to be blown away
How disappointing
Another thing, see Toole's comments on imaging:
It is an interesting trait of the human ego that most of us, most of the time, know how certain things should be. Stereo is no exception. In spite if the fact that recordings are created, by and large, from multi-track tapes (or at least multiple microphones in acoustically foreign environments), many folks persist in believing that two speakers in a room are capable of rendering positions, dimensions, and ambience that, to them, should be perceived as realistic. Fortunately, humans have good imaginations, because occasionally this miserably imperfect system works amazingly well.
It was interesting hearing the review team's comments on imaging. Imaging is our imagination.

I've been told multiple times 8381 would sound worst than 8351+W371
My question is how?
What would be worst about it?

I wouldn’t worry PJ there is about to be a new ‘top dog’ that will make the 8381 look like a child’s plaything.

Honestly PJ I would love to, let’s just say that every feature on your ‘dream speaker list’ is present, they are going to be simply outrageous.
( apart from maybe the sensual aluminium touching thing)
