Christ!!! That is a bloody travesty of grotesque hideousness.

It looks diseased.

Hi ,
Measurements and figures are all well and good, but they don't tell the whole story when listening on a good, balanced, and musical system! If measurements reassure some people, then good for them! Just be aware that the best measurements don't necessarily mean better listening results, and for your information, some musical instruments are tuned by ear !

What you have just written has no content. It means nothing.

Too many JBL models for me to
process. True of many manufacturers. I assume that they are following the old GM business model which ended in large SUVs and pickup trucks. My brain goes to the JBL mid century modern aesthetic. Looked lovely sounded fine. Old fart opinion of course.

How is that relevant here? Speakers and associated equipment are not musical instruments.

Is there a patent number for the "new patented horn"?

"Extended phase plug" or "throat diverging lens" or whatever you call it:

Maybe someone else has politely responded to this. Electronics if designed properly, are pretty much a done deal I feel as long as they're working within their power output and not stressed or thrashed in the case of amps.

SPEAKERS however, I'd mostly agree with you, as I'd suggest the spec can be achieved first and final listening comfort fine tuned by ear, a dB or so around the crossover on an otherwise decent speaker can make a difference long term and not show as a 'nasty' on the response plots. Most commercial speakers are usually way outside that tight 'tweaking tolerance' and it's here the end user may well have to match the speakers they choose to the room acoustics - if you hunt around here it's all explained far better than I ever could.

The thing is, with decent modern well performing speakers, is that they should cope with bad rooms better than a typical wayward box of old and evidence here of those able to own such good speakers seems to bear this out.

P.S. Do please remember that of course, musical instruments are ear-tuned, but in an ideal world, a playback system shouldn't be tuned that way at all, as it should truthfully reproduce the 'ear-tuning' of the recorded instruments :)

P.P.S. Human hearing really isn't that acute, despite claims of audiophile 'golden ears' to the contrary. The brain behind our ears is also so easily fooled. Once fooled, suspicion in hearing acuity begins and many long-timers here, have been there and done it, hence the all-but-tribal views against pure subjectivism ;)

You listen with your eyes like you argument with name calling, same level...
Stop thinking you're more serious than you actually are! Don't play the victim, relax, let your hair down! I listen with my ears and my own sensitivity; I trust them, no need for measurements and figures! And once again, I repeat myself, measurements and other figures on paper don't tell the whole story, they don't necessarily determine the listening experience! It's not uncommon for speakers and electronics to be less than ideal according to measurements but still sound incredibly musical! What don't you understand about that?

The dip shown in @thewas's post number 83 above looks to me like the sort of thing that could occur in the crossover region if the polarity of one of the drivers was incorrect. So I'd wait for a "second opinion" to come along just in case.

Hello Duke

The crossover is @ 285/1100 so the 800Hz notch makes no sense at all. They are using 3rd and 4rth order so?

I don't get it?

Rob :)

I have been informed they are having trouble with the integration on the new Everest.

My impression is that it was too rushed to make the Vienna hi end show.

All the thinking cap audio people are likely questioning this design choice.

Going back and looking at previous systems the SK2-1000 used a pair of 10" 251 drivers in a .5 configuration that ran all the way down and were not bandwidth limited as in the new Everest. Looking at the schematic and voltage drives I have to wonder how the voltage drives compare. Adding the 270 Hz crossover point is going to complicate things. A single 10 would have been adequate the dual seems to complicate things for no good reason beyond visual symmetry.

Rob :)
