New video from Danny at GR-Research. Not really shocking considering everything else he's said, and the fact that he sells cables, but still interesting watch to how people convince themselves of what's truly right or wrong. I take his main point of this video that the only way to truly test a cable is to listen, and see if we hear a difference. "Does it sound different, does it not sound different."

Pretty frustrating to hear him brush off the null test, as well as the psychology of placebo effects, expectation, etc in one sentence. He didn't even mention that they should should be blind AB tested. Our brain obviously influences our understanding of sitiuations and decisions hundreds of times a day, not sure why this is such a dividing concept when it comes to hearing.

No animosity toward Danny, just a man set in his ways.

Its just sad. Danny is a knowledgeable dude but hes like most businessman are hungry for money so he has to resort to spouting bs that he himselr will never believe.

Can we stop these treads about obviously bad or fraudulent videos , there is an unlimited supply of them at YouTube it never ends ever.

And instead promote good content that we should watch .

These treads commenting on wrong/bad audiophile videos ? what do we learn here ? ASR has many such treads to what end , why do anyone feel compelled to start these topics ?

The reason ASR has many such threads is because most of us realize that commenting on or debating these issues in most other audio forums gets you accused of trolling or banned. This is the place where we can comment on audiophile idiocy and point out the irrationality of this stuff without creating a shitstorm...

I don't see what the problem is. So what if it gets the guy a few extra views? Keep shining a light on the foolishness. It's easy to avoid these threads if it isn't your cup of tea.

Ad hominem fluff to sell fancy wire. I'm atcually intrested to see the promised science Danny will present.

Could you not propagate his fame and fortune by sharing the video here and posting about it?

Just keep scrolling next time.

I apologize, my intention wasn't to promote Danny, or his channel or anything like that. I admit that video didn't actually have much content to it, I just thought it was interesting that he said he kept saying he was all about the science and measurements.

I for one do enjoy seeing peoples counter arguments as for why they believe some of these audio myths, as I feel like it helps strengthen my objective beliefs, and understand more of the psychological reasons why we might fall into believing some of this stuff.

I'll be more careful about posting them in the future, just thought it could possibly lead to some healthy discussion or debate, not so much about whether Danny is right, but just why he and so many others might believe what they do.

Keep in mind Amir commented debunking videos were leading requests for upcoming videos.....

I think it is important to bring up these topics and videos so we can civilly discuss the fallacies that are made. The right response to this type of content isn't "Don't post it here! It's all lies! No Danny videos!" - filtering people is toxic and is counter-productive to ASR's mission. We should understand the points that are made, debunk incorrect claims individually, and welcome cordial discussion.

Here's the video regarding Danny's "proof" that fancy cables reduce noise:

To save you 20 minutes, he hooks up four different cables (ranging from hardware-store cable to an ultra-expensive fancy braided cable) to an AM antenna port on a receiver, and shows that the reception drops as the cable gets fancier.

This is wrong because these cables are not acting as antennas for 20 Hz - 20 KHz - these are picking up frequencies that are much higher. The correct test is to plug these cables into a low-frequency spectrum analyzer and look at the noise in the audible range, as that would translate directly to noise contributions. You could even hook up a nice reference signal if you wanted to perform multi-tone tests and stuff like that.

I agree with you. I think that the main reason why such threads appear is that they do not need any deeper, any special knowledge. Anyone can post a thread like this and anyone knows what it is about, anyone can comment. So the threads like this become popular and they raise the number of forum hits, so even the forum administrator does not care.

Also didn't this guy said we can't measure speakers before and swapping out to a expensive cable because "science's not that advanced yet".

Claims like these really do blow my mind. I mean we have global high speed internet infrastructure, virtual reality headsets, quantum computers, 5nm processor manufacturing from apple , gene editing with crispr, artificial intelligence etc. I mean give us some credit as humans, please. To act like hearing, or music is such a complex phenomenon that we can't possibly fully understand is ridiculous. I mean there's been audiologists for decades that specialize in understanding human hearing, it's crazy that music or audio has this kind of mystical property to it where it "can't be fully understood by science" it's bs.

So it is clear, I don't mind such threads, even if it gives them a bunch more views. We need to know what we are facing out there so that we can respond in kind if needed.

Thanks Amir, I definitely didn't want to offend the spirit of our community here. I do think we need to know what we're facing. And thanks to @SnoopKatt for posting this, because that way we can discuss and criticize the "science" behind his claims, and see where his testing is flawed.

We live in a world where there is a massive chasm between those with STEM knowledge and those without. The charlatans take grains of truth and turn them into mountains of misinformation. The same thing happens in medicine and other fields, and the internet allows for the rapid and efficient spread of it.

The irony of this guy wearing a not-flat-earth shirt is not lost on me.

Oh yeah? Well here's what I think...I think that most of the people who complain about threads like this are only upset because they have a certain amount of agreement with the ideas in question, or are just a "fan" of the person in question. So in this case folks who happen to like Danny, or in other cases folks who happen to like Guttenburg or the PS Audio guy. They don't like seeing their guy getting slagged.

I suspect both of our thoughts have relatively equal merit.

I can't tell if you're meaning to talk to pma or about pma, but if it was the latter, I'm pretty sure pma is not one of those people you are talking about. He's firmly grounded in reality and has deep engineering knowledge both in and out of audio from what I've read of his posts over the years.

I used to think it was a waste of time to care about misinformation or engage with those who spread it, but several recent events in the world have changed my mind. I guess this is only audio, though. It's not like PS Audio is going to cause real damage to society.
