New Genelec Main Monitor

Ok 15 years old, at that time I wasn't aware of the brand. The older models are more a hit or miss from everything I know. The measurements don't look that good tonality wise. But they seems to have very low to no resonances and good high signal handling.

The absence of resonances and distortion at very high spl handeling was really amazing from the speakers I was listening to. The tonality was also very good. What really stands out is that instruments sound much more real e.g. a snare realy sound like a snare and not like a toy version of a snare with the typically dome tweeter ppsss sound which 95% of speakers with a dome tweeter produce.
It doesn't matter - if the set you heard was good to you, then yes, at the time, it was!!! My epiphany to larger 'mains' was a set of now surpassed ATC SCM200A's, the pre SL soffit mounted version with external big amp pack, not the visually hideous towers with smaller built-in active electronics they make now for audiophiles buying into the brand. The sense of dynamic range on a simple CD of tenor plus piano was incredible and when the otherwise mild-mannered tenor sang out he SANG OUT, almost pushing the listener into the wall behind. Ozric Tentacles' The Throbbe has NEVER sounded as good since (the sales manager had to scuttle from the room, I remember). Ahh, happy daze them were.

And yes, I'm sure that performance available back then is bettered today, but the memories of what was available back then is still with me (I measured up for a pair and had I got a good price on my 100As, an affordable bank loan could have done it as mortgage rates were coming down at the time. Instead, I met the lady who became my very long suffering wife, so all that thought was abandoned thirty years ago.

test1234.

I really don't know which models you're talking about.
Are you talking about Genelec products from the 1990s, 2000s, maybe the 2010s or 2020s?

Tell me the name and model. Thanks.

In any case, I can't understand your thoughts when you speak so vaguely. It's a bit like being in a meeting where the CEO is stuffing his mouth with buns and trying to say something particularly clever, dressed in an expensive, stylish suit and an expensive tie. It drives everyone in the audience crazy.
The whole 80x0 and 83x0 series. They like almost all speakers have a inherent dome tweeter sound. If you listen to a song like https://tidal.com/browse/track/52421391?u

Or any other good recorded drum set sounds you easily notice a difference between almost any compression drive with a horn and almost any dome tweeter. The compression driver has weaknesses but the impulse sound of drums is much more real at any volume.

Although I am not a fan of ATC speakers on these forums, in my opinion even the larger models sound significantly better and higher quality than these decorative horn speakers, which only sound reasonably good with very limited music styles. The musical experience must be universally appealing to all music styles, not just one or two.

The 8030c model is a fairly high-quality small room speaker solution without DSP features. Of course, it cannot compete with larger models in terms of the highest sound quality, but its compact size makes it quite impressive for close-range listening.

The smaller models are only suitable for light entertainment use in a caravan or for computer work, not for audio enthusiasts. But that's just my opinion. You are, of course, entitled to disagree.

Genelec : The Horniest of Horns.

(My cheesy Mad Men style sales pitch... Whilst sipping a large bourbon obviously.)

And why does the snare sound like a psss and not like a tst at any volume? It is because many small dome tweeters have a inherent sound signature! The brand Bohne audio was founded because of this. If you know what to listen for you find the weak point of any speaker fast...
Shttttt

Taking a surreal turn here for sure. Thankfully.

I'd love a pair of 8381As, but I would only be able to utilise their full potential once every few months.
At the times inbetween being cautioned/arrested for their use. Way more SPL than I need. Plus, those amps use a fair bit of power, even at idle, so costly to run even when not being pushed.

In my (lottery winning) dreams, I will own a pair, however.
Obviously.

That is the inherent sound of a bigger ribbon tweeter, which might be okay for some drum set sounds but not so good for other instruments ;) no joke...:D Try it once you hear it there is no turning back...

Come on monitor speakers are not necessarily less colored. The smaller Genelec for example like 95% of speakers can't play back any instruments with high energy in the tweeter band correctly. They all sound more like a psss from a snare not like a tst like a real snare sounds, no matter how hard you try to equalize the speaker...
One wonders how mix engineers and mastering engineers actually manage to create the drum sound you hear through your preferred speakers without actually using your preferred speaker to work with! I can confidently say that they will be using speakers from within your 95% group.

Yes, and they know the difference between the real sound and the most of the time pure speaker representation.

From experience, they do. They're really pretty good, overall.

I - what? Lol. No.

My man with the buns again hahahaha

I can't understand either of you at all. Psst vs tsst? Bun gobbling executives?

Thank God for measurements so we don't have to rely on disparate dialects of gibberish

At 18:00 p.m. The audio gates of heaven will open today, September 30-25.

Have you already got your popcorn and welding goggles ready?

I'm going to hide under a blanket, just in case.

It's pretty big lol
