New Genelec Main Monitor

Maybe reuse 1238a frame/body, reuse 1238a woofer, drop in a new square panel comprising coax from 8381 + waveguide.
We now have 8371 or 1239

The 1238a crossover to midrange is about 450Hz. The 8381 crossover to coax is about 500Hz. Hmm.... seems to fit pretty well.

Max SPL = 123dB ??

They dropped another pic on FB:

Nice! We already kinda new that … coax :)

The shape of the waveguide looks similar to 8361 in landscape mode.

Here's my cooked version of the above image ....

Might just look like my speculated 1238a + coax + waveguide. :)

Dome tweeter…so it’s not getting the 8381’s compression driver I guess.

It would be funny if both Neumann and Genelec conspired to mess with us monitor nerds here on ASR.

Dropping disinformation via occasional fake hints and random photos relating to a future monitor. All the while laughing their asses off at all the feverish speculation on threads here.
They will probably then go silent (ala Neumann) for a while.. Then blow our minds with a complete new range, or some such. Lol.

The main weakness of the S360 was its vertical cancellations. It makes sense that this monitor does not try for a much more complex waveguide to fix the interface with the woofer and instead opted for a HF/MF coax to drop the crossover frequency.

The S360 also had a downfiring port, but if this monitor is a small main then some studios will definitely flush mount it, so the port has to be on the front baffle.

So it seems right that this monitor is taking design cues from the 12xx series. Perhaps it's the first in a new line.

Interesting. The ring surrounding the tweeter looks extremely small, three inches across in total. That is smaller than the mid driver in the current the Ones series.

Why would they use this driver instead of using the one in the Ones?
How is better?

Woofer on the picture is also very different than the ones they use now at their mains.
The old ones look like coated? paper, the new one looks more "pro" woofer, like the bigger Eminence ones.

Edit: my crystal ball sees at very least 3"-4" voice coil in there, this thing must kick like a mule.

Perhaps the waveguide will be fairly deep and used for significant loading.
