New Genelec Main Monitor

So, what is ultimately more preferable at short range - less dynamic power and a wide directivity, or more dynamic power and a narrow directivity?
Power, where?
Cause if your talking about the good, old chest sudden hit there's no substitute to a big-ish enclosure with a woofer crossed high enough.

As always it depends on the individual priorities, people planning to spend those amounts anyway either have the corresponding experience and expertise or should get such with some demonstrations at an appropriate dealer or studio.

From 50's all the way to 250's all at one blow by experience as this is one of my vices.
There's some tests around it too, here's a print:

Note, I'm not talking about the subs rubble, that's slow in comparison, I'm talking about the dry, sudden one.

Until we reach an impasse in the conversation, I would not like to move on to listening.

The subwoofer works up to 100Hz at most. I've always thought this is the low-frequency range, and it handles it superbly.
We're left with the 100-250Hz range—that's the satellites' job. They need to be powerful and fast here.
If an 8" speaker isn't powerful enough at 4 meters, is it really that way at 2 meters?

From what I know and feel (that's a sensation far from hearing) of the gazillion speakers I have listened to, no matter the rooms, it's not so much about drivers, although I never felt it with smaller than 10", it's about the speaker size and enclosure. Give it 120lt and beyond and you might get there.
Larger baffle helps too.

That's seems like a real estate property and If I was to guess it's the large radiating area that does it apart from the air they push.

In that case id just get the 8381 ;)
I meant at about that same price
I might be wrong but personally I would prefer the subs to be in a different location. If soffit mounted I’d probably feel differently. The fact that these were designed to be swap out replacements for the 1238 tells me these are really meant to address that sort of application.
