New Genelec Main Monitor

Surprising amount of horizontal error for a horn loaded coax three way - not that it's very much, but still.
If only it was a little deeper....
This is very much speculation, but if you look at the mid driver, you'll see that it is very slopped inwards for a driver, I assume that is to ensure that the dome driver is sufficiently loaded to provide high enough SPL. The mid driver is shaped unusually, that also has an impact on its radiation pattern, even inside the waveguide/horn structure.

Sidenote: I want Erin to get one of these to see how it compares to the JBL M2. Price and SPL capabilities are quite similar with a slight advantage to JBL on paper.

srrxr71.

I have 8260a models in my bedroom on stands as an extension of my Eversolo DMP-6 Master Edition. I really enjoy listening to the Koksial series on my bed, even though it's old.

The rhythm of the sound and the stereo image are absolutely perfect. I'm not planning on buying the newer Ones series for the time being because I don't need to.
I saw the 8260a at a dealer once. What a beast. I’m in the same boat. Given my current room size i’m actually very happy with my 8341a + 2 x 7360. I have my 8361 and w371 downstairs but one side failed during a thunderstorm and I haven’t bothered fixing it.

Sure I want these 8380s and I could sell my 8341 and 8361 and the subs and probably cover the cost of these but I don’t know what I would do with the power. I like the isobars so much more on them. Also I’ve heard the comments about the hidden oval woofers. However these would probably get me evicted. I’ll wait until I get into a more isolated living situation.

More interesting, a very narrow horizontal directivity. Might not be the best choice for "pleasure" listening.
Personally I would prefer it. I listen in what people would call an “overdamped” room. I also have a computer monitor on my desk.

Just my personal preference is that I don’t my room to add any “ambience”. So the dispersion pattern of these would actually suit me well.

Anyway I will be visiting Finland next year and I’ll get a chance to listen and learn and make longer term choices.

You know you want them ;)

Damn I must win the lottery and get them
Although if I'm super rich I'd just get the 8381
They can be used also as nearfields
;)
One interesting them about them is that the front 15” looks exactly the same as the w371. I seriously want to know if the 2 could be used together. Maybe the 8380 driver could cover most of the upper bass and let the w371 front driver handle even more cancelation duties. But i’m dreaming. I hope it is possible.

Don't think so
They said it can be used with subs they didn't mention the W371

I believe the rack ears are for the amplifiers not the speaker.
That seems less wonky to me than mounting the entire speaker in a rack, but I'm still curious why you would want to detach the amps and put them in a rack? Shorter interconnects but longer cables from amps to speaker.

I think since this is a coaxial 3-way it should have been named 8371 and the 8381 should have been named 8380 or 8391. ::shrug::
I am sorry to say, but we are currently following this product numbering and coding scheme. Since both 8380A and 8381A are having a 15 inch bass driver, the third digit needs to be an 8. 8381A is closer to The Ones family with their Point Source Continued Directivity (PCD) Technology, therefore it got the 1 as last digit, and the later introduced model got the 0.

If you soffit mount speakers, you can't have the amps built in - they'll overheat. Hence, remote mounting.

I liked how twice in the video I watched, and I saw only a little bit of the initial presentation and then of the influencer-style conversation, but in both parts they basically said: you don't need this to get your work done, it's for when you need to impress clients. That's the same answer that I took away from the ASR thread asking Why are main monitors so powerful?

Why didn't the 8380 keep the 4 mid drivers at the corners like. 8381?

They are not sharing the same bass driver, they are not even from the same manufacturer. And no, unfortunately you can't use the 8380A with the W371A. Purely technically speaking, it would be possible to let them work together, but we are limiting the number of models which can be paired up with the W371A and its Woofer Cal technology. Currently only The Ones range models from 8331A to 8361A can be paired up with it.

Thank you for clarifying. I hope that changes one day but i’m happy for now.

The other thing they said was that listening continuously at 90+ dB is not recommended. I listen at 100+ when I do. Better not get these for my hearing sake. Also they mentioned a minimum room size and how they would help you select the right model for your needs.
