New Fiio BR15

  1. I read somewhere the BR15 has less RGB colour options than than K13, what colours are available in the BR15
  2. What can the screen on the BR15 display that the K13 cannot?
1) colours surrounding front two dials are "follow audio" , red, blue, green, cyan, purple, yellow, white, cycle

2) the bigger multiline display (vs the K13) is very nice and has three theme settings (amber, white, blue) .
the BR15 displays such items as album ,artist , bit rate, menus etc ...i understand will also stream lyrics using fioo app and bluetooth.

the very top line is always there showing EQ sate , stream info ( like bluetooth codec, pcm or dsd bitrate etc) and volume.
below that can be 2 large bitrate and incoming fromat lines, or 3 small additional track/artist/album lines or 3 menu lines . menu can timeout (adjustable) to black or stay on or be turned off manually.

as others said, on a desktop the smaller multiline is fine . if in a system further away the input mode display is reasonable at distance to see

i'd say see some of the few videos posted online if interested

Hi.

I asked FiiO if they have planned to offer their customers (who have bought this FiiO BR15 R2R DAC) a 5 Volt DC linear power supply with the same box format as we could see on one of the advertisements for their K13 R2R ->

DETAILS.jpg

I know that there is a 12 Volt DC power supply sold under the brand name 'Audio Jade' but I told them that the format was not identical to the K13 R2R and the BR15 R2R and that aesthetically it seemed less 'suitable': I am waiting for their answer.

In the meantime, I use a power supply with the 'STUDER 900' diagram which is excellent, more or less the same model as this one ->

For information, with the BR15 R2R DAC, when using an external linear power supply, it is advisable not to leave the power cable connected at the same time as indicated in the documentation.

In addition, with the external power supply, the on/off button no longer has any influence on the device, only the button on the front allows the on/off function (or the remote control, of course).

My next post should interest you even more ;)

Hi.

Doing the lord's work for us I've also seen the advertisements with that identical looking Fiio power supply. Hopefully it will become a real product for us.

People hi :)

Here is my next post that will surely interest you...

First of all, I think it's important to remember that this FIIO BR15 R2R DAC is available for only about 200 euros, which is important for what I'm going to say next.

I would like to salute FIIO who has been able to offer such a complete device, with a great 'SQ', a level of R&D that has made it possible to achieve a finished, complete device, which works perfectly (including its FIRWAREand all its features), with a high level of technicality fully mastered, very well implemented and for such a low price.

It's totally exceptional !

In order to 'concretize' my words, I propose you to discover a preview on ASR of the PCB of this device: I have only put the front and back images of the PCB but I have several detailed photos of the 'interesting' components.

They will allow technicians to validate the entire technical description of this DAC presented in the manufacturer's presentation pages

Warning: do not try to disassemble your device as I did at the risk of losing your warranty and especially if you do not have experience for it.
This device is very delicate to disassemble, has internal connectors connected to each other by tiny cables that are extremely fragile if mishandled, as well as very precise adjustments and 'ground' connections that must be replaced perfectly.

There is so much to say technically about the various technical solutions used that I don't know where to start. It's remarkable: bravo FIIO !!!

NB: don't forget my request for a firmware including the French language in the menu and also that the display offers the same colors as those available for the buttons on the front, you are no longer close to that and it must be child's play for technicians such as you ;)

PS: above all don't ask TOPPING for advice, LOL :D

today 1.20.26 i all day testing vs D6s
one song one position one connection /usb and BT /:
D6s give to audio listener the "audio performer" is closer to you which leads to expressiveness and clarity but BT to Fiio is a Better ldac vs ldac

Hi
Will you be so kind to explain how is your setup?
I guess it is; speakers - amplifier - FIIO BR15 (as receiver) - air link connected to your laptop, is it ok?
Thanks.

Is the fiio br15 hid compliant through the usband you can pause and play the media from computer.

this FIIO is the best I've ever heard in BT .... but TO not have punch as CABLE integracion
if you listen to BT mode i recommended this but only BT ... )

UPDATE !!!!
i have problem to OPTICAL OUT /not work test to 3 dif. toslink cables .

Thanks for answering.
What do you mean by TEST fiio" which model is this?
Regards

thanks for the table above.
(note your orange text in the second remote photo above should read" Fiio K13 REMOTE CONTROL" showing that risky Line Out LO button one shouldnt accidently press if volume is up (not relevent to BR15 ).

I can confirm that with the BR15 R2R EQ set to "off", the BR15 displays and accepts up to 768 khz (note that "bypass" is not off in this case). Some other early posts incorrectly state this or didn't realize its a function of EQ. If EQ is something other than "off", the maximum USB is 192 kHz input with USB (tested through roon pics atttached) . I downloaded and am using the FIIO USB audio device driver for that. (its similar to FOSI audio driver)

Testing bluetooth in from my Samsung S25 Ultra set to LDAC (bluetooth and developer options used to turn it on ) was very nice . solid great sound ... so good I ordered the FIIO Air-link to use with my ASUS Z13 tablet/laptop or other source in the future . I enjoy Hi Res via Roon/Qobuz and hear a difference of course but am wondering how the LDAC vs HiRes via USB or Coax truly is for me . need more time to assess this. diminishing returns I expect ... so far I think this LDAC implementation is excellent for me and for many others.

I havent played to much with critical listening for those 4 R2R oversampling settings (off, 96, 192, 384) ... tested some off vs 384 ... very happy so far with all quality.

I have a now 3 desktop DAC's...
1) new FIIO BR15 R2R
2) Fosi ZD3 (with ESS9039Q2M and 3xLME49720 op amps vs JRC4580D original) ... so impressed with this one still
3) Fosi ZH3 (with AKM4493 and 2x Sparkos 3602 op amps vs OPA1612AIDR original) ... excellent since day 1
...all these and my BR15 share my ZA3 dual mono amps running via XLR (with R and XLR Sparkos 3602 op amps vs NA5532p original. also changed sub crossover op amp to OPA1612)

I will say I am very impressed with all 3 DACs ...with this FIIO D15 R2R still in my breakin stage I am very pleased . I believe I hear some nuances of increased depth , especially in live and intimate/jazz tracks that I havent heard before...still testing but I am impressed . I was looking for a smooth detailed sound signature and so far there is indeed a slight improvemnet in smooth musical sound variations in my near field listening vs the superbly accurate Delta Sigma DACs implemented in the FOSI line up I have. All really are superb so we're talking about variations in levels of great here . My near field setup speakers are Totem Loons with a Kef Sub so very good imaging and clarity fed by all these sources.

Time will tell if I sell some DAC's or keep them all and use them linked to my music source preferences that fit great with each signature .... fun stuff.

Over the holidays I will also test these DACS on my #1 system feeding my Focal 1028's which have incredible Berylium tweeters...this will be a good test for R2R's smoothness!
Hiiiiii!
You may be the person I need the most, as I have been looking for a DAC for my apos gremlin tube amp+HifiMan Sundaras and cant decide between Fosi ZD3, ZH3 and Fiio BR15. I see you have them all and I’d love to hear your opinion on these as theres little to no info that can guide me(I’m a beginner to audiophile), love thx

I see you have them all and I’d love to hear your opinion on these as theres little to no info that can guide me(I’m a beginner to audiophile), love thxI started with the ZD3 and it was great in my desktop near field setup (Totem Loon plus Kef10b sub)...amps used are ZA3 in mo
I started with the Fosi ZD3...I loved the sound in my desktop setup (Totem Loon plus Kef 10b sub) ... I drove this through USB direct from my computer...sound was awesome. It was very clear and I loved the look of my minimal ZA3 ZD3 stack.

Then I was sooooo lucky to win the ZH3 from Fosi (Thanks Fosi!) so I moved to that as my main desktop setup system . I wanted to play with the filters somewhat as I do like to tinker and I am getting into headphones so that was a great fit. There was a slight differenece with this AKM DAC vs the ESS within the ZD3 but both are great in a near field setup. As I got used to the different amps I started to lean towards the AKM vs the ESS amp for its warmth and detail escepecially for long days listening while I work. Don't assume AKM warmth tonality doesn't mean its also detailed. both DAC's are very revealing. I passed the ZD3 to my daughter for her TV setup (after trying both ZD# ZH3 dacs for like 2 months) as I wasn't using the HDMI in and could be happy keeping either. I started having slight preference for the AKM sound though
...I suggest between those two pick the one that fits your use input case better on inputs and consider both to have quiet backgrounds and great DAC conversions. I am enjoying the desktop setup now generally through a wifi connection to a Zen Stream then via USB out to the ZH3 mostly upsampled to DSD256.

I then got the Fio BR15 for a great early deal and wanted to try the R2R setup (and occasional bluetooth) . I thought this Fiio BR15 was a better fit for me vs the Fiio K13 R2R as I already had a headphone amp in the ZH3 but really wanted to try an R2R amp. The BR15 is fantastic and I really enjoyed the change in sound. I decided to keep it and have since moved it to my main home theatre audio room to drive my Focal speakers through a devialet amp. The warmth and detail it provides is just a pleasure and I can listen now and find new nuances in songs Ive herad for a long time. Note I and I also bought the Airlink to test higher res bluetooth and APTX lossess and LDAC sound excellent . Like really they are great and unless you do very critical listening, most can't tell the difference between those bluetooth codecs and hardwired hi res files. Yes some can if they really listen . I like the options for good blueetooth streaming if friends come over. The airlink works great from a PC as well from my phone for whatever reason. LDAC works direct from my phone too. I also now ave an SR11 to hardwire roon into the BR15 to really use it's R2R functions through Roon. This works great (also has airplay which I don't use) . The BR15 R2R does add a better soundstage for my bright Focal Eelectra 1028's passed through my devialet DPremiere amp . I'm very glad to add that R2R to my system . Super great value for an R2R dac!

I think all your options are great ..pick the one that has the best inputs you would use as generally once its setup you generally don't tweak the settings I find. It was fun playing with the Fiio Oversampling variability and the ZH3 filter settings but those tweaks may tend to be set once for your setup then left as is.

If I was brand new like you new,
I would go ZH3 if using headphones is a must of course, and go ZD3 if HDMI input is a must and go BR15 if you want higher end bluetooth connectivity . Kind of obvious I guess lol.
They all have coax and optical and usb so if thats how your gerenally using it then think sound field...Soundwise they are all great..slight bias on my side to the more unique warmer BR15 R2R sound then the ZH3 AKM DAC then the ZD3 detailed ESS DAC but it does depend on your speakers and amps you use. Perhaps saying then cheapest is best is the way to go as you will be happy with them all.

The related software for all is updated and although there are some nuances , updating firmware or using PC USB drivers if needed is all easy and has great FAQ's and user community to help if needed.

Note1 ... the amps I use are now ZA3 in dual mono through XLR with the opamps in the ZA3 and ZH3 and ZD3 where changed to sparkos 3602. The sparkos do I think provide more purity and detail vs teh stcok amps but it's darn close so stock op amps are 100% perfectly fine if you don't want to experiment in this hobby.
Note 2 ... I generally run from Roon and Qobuz with high res music generally upsampled to max PCM or DSD256. I tweak EQ curves in Roon as needed for my room.

Very curious how exactly it does this, please explain
not sure sir pigeon
... the BR15 R2R analog output feed to my Devailet Dpremier subsequently goes through an ADC then processed through the quite resolving BurrBrown DAC of days of old (circa 2014)
...must be a magic combo with my speakers :) the R2R feed coming in that way is definetly not the same soundstage as say a straight digital input (hdmi from my Roon Nuc or spdif) to my DPremiere of the same track.
It was an hobby experiment I'm happy worked out ! It sounds great to me.
