New Evo 5 Wharfedale series

I like surprises, good ones, would this be a good one?

Cannot tell you as it is vastly dependent on the room, the listening setup and your expectations. Have no experience with this particular generation of Wharfedale speakers, but I remember some predecessors to be showing the typical character of AMT tweeters with highlighted brilliance band (3-6K), while KEF models typically tend to be in general pretty recessed in this frequency band in their off-axis response.

In all my years in and out of hifi I don't have much experience with different speakers.
I've tried lot of amps and quite a few Dacs, but not speakers, mainly because they are not as easy to move around or return if you don't like them.
Looks like I might have to do this with the Evo 5s thought.
You can get a flavour of my room from my profile picture.12ft wide 17ft long..
AMT tweeters seem to be a marmite product, some love them, others don't.
Like you say though only way to find out if they suit me is get them in my room with my gear.
If and when I do, I'll be sure to post my findings on here.

Only subjective reviews for now.

Frequency response – on-axis (red) and vertically at an angle of 30° below the axis (yellow) and 30° above the tweeter axis (green)

Looks better than the Evo 4.4 measurements from the same website:

Thanks so much for the links.

It's also difficult to try these, so it seems more feasible to buy online, try them out, and return them if you don't like them.

So far, I've bought a pair of Monitor Audio Studio 89s and am trying them out. They seem very good.
How did you like these speakers? Do they have a great soundstage? What do you like? What do you not like?

Hi.I have to say the speakers are excellent. I'm using a pair of Kef R3s.The soundstage is very good, they have a very open soundstage, and I have to say the bass is terrific!!! I didn't imagine two small mid-woofers could have such a full-bodied bass.I have to say I had to get used to the ribbon tweeter. It has a completely different response than the classic silk dome (or other materials). It has a more "material" high-frequency reproduction, especially on wind instruments. It gives a sensation of vibration when listening to flutes or trumpets; it's a difficult sensation to explain. What don't I like? Nothing at the moment, maybe, but don't take it seriously. The midrange could be a little more forward (I used to have a Kef R3), but vocals are excellent, so it's probably just my misconception or the amplifier I used.I'll add that I tried them with an Arcam A25, and it was with that amplifier that I had that feeling in the mids. I then connected them to a Nuprime Ida-9 and it was the opposite: the mid-high range was too prominent and became tiring after a while (I returned the Nuprime).Aesthetically, they're very beautiful. Now I don't know which amplifier to pair them with. I was considering the new Arcam A25+ or a Roksan Caspian M2/Exposure 3510/or going back to the NAD 399 I had three years ago.Regarding the Monitor Audio Studio 89 speakers, I can only recommend them, but keep in mind that I paid €1390 for them (around €2500 is too much).Let me know about anything else.Best regards.

Thanks for this. I am a bit confused in your response as to what is describing the audio studio 89 or r3. Do you prefer the r3 or studio 89? Have you tried the studio 89 within 12 inches from a wall? If so did it affect the sound much?

Hello, I am interested in the 5.3. Due to my room, I have a mobile listening position. And I look for speakers with good dispersion abilities. Are these a good option in that sense? I listen mainly to rock music. My other choices are Fyne 501E or 501s

They would have to be at 30 cm from the rear wall, is that an option for the 5.3?
