New Emotiva XMC-2+ and RMC-1+: What is the difference, and what do you think?

Combo answer to you and Fredygump.....

I use two subs to fill out my main speakers. I've measured them and they roll off at 50hz. I use two subs, one for each speaker to fill the 20-50hz gap. Then a third sub for LFE for 5.1/Atmos content. I set the two subs for my mains using the built in DSP for the SVS subs. Pretty much the same as you Fredy, though a slightly different method. I then let the rest of the DSP be handled by the RMCL-1.
You broke my brain.

How do you configure that? RMC1-L outputs to your mains, I am not understanding how you connect subs and mains together. Assuming LFE is from RCM1-L direct to subwoofer?! (quatement - question and statement at same time).

Since this is a thread about XMC-2+ and RMC-1+ - I've got a question specific to the speaker configuration limitation of these products.
As mentioned in an earlier post, the XMC-2+ and RMC-1+ cannot be configured for a 5.2.6 configuration.

The options are 5.1.6 and if you want to have a second sub, you would need a Y splitter for single sub out.

How significant is it to be able to have room correction for 2 subs versus only having 1 sub.
Is room correction on subs REALLY that valuable?

My motto - mo bass, mo better!! My wife and I are bass heads (not the drug bass head, but the sound bass head - you know some of you was going to twist that around). :p
What you get is "clean" bass! When you get the subwoofers optimized correctly, you hear a lot more detail, and it stops being boomy. (it sounds more detailed because the boomy frequencies mask surrounding frequencies.)

It really depends on your specific room. A lot of people start with 20dB difference from highest peak to lowest valley, and after optimization it is more like +-4 dB.

I also had the stereo subwoofers awhile back, with a bookshelf speaker + subwoofer. They are configured so a 3 way(?) speaker works like a 4 way? That's what I did. It is better than a single subwoofer. But if it is left in phase with the main speaker, you miss some of the potential benefits of multiple subs.

OK. My Main LCR speakers are all active (amplification inside the speaker box). I run the XLR cable from the RMC1-L to the left sub, which then daisy chains out to the left front. The I adjust the left sub to integrate with the left front. I then treat the left front / sub combination as one entity.

Ahh, the ole daisy chain out to other subwoofer trick - duh, now I feel dumb.

Yes, I also had active studio monitors. And matchign subwoofers with integrated crossover settings. One subwoofer only got the left channel, and the other only got the right channel.

No. I wasn't clear. I was having real trouble getting my subs to integrate properly with the fronts. I tried this method and found it sounded better than the whole enchilada DSP path. It also works for my bypass 2-channel setup that removes the RMC1-L from the signal path. Vinyl path is: phono pre-amp > pre-amp > output to sub > output to speakers.

FYI - my amp does have daisy chain functionality - so now I am back in the XMC-2+ game again

@NicS you are supposed to be helping me narrow down choices.

Dohhhh!!

I still think the Marantz C 20 is the go for now.

Got any specifics?

Yup, just read the thread. Very disappointed in the measurements.

Well, on the plus side (no pun intended...), you can get the same performance for $1,500 less if you buy the XMC 2+.

But yeah, a bit disappointing! They designed a new board from the ground up, or so they tell us, and they ended up with about the same performance as the old one!
