New Emotiva DR Series….. coming soon

Thanks, I'm hoping (waiting) to find something I won't need an adapter for. But, it's good to know it's there if needed.
I do admit it's slightly annoying they would not have an RCA sub output. I mean... very nice they include an XLR for the sub (it IS a fully balanced differential stack after all) but not at the expense of an RCA out for the sub. Most subs certainly don't have XLR ins. In some ways, I feel like they left it off because their new sub line has XLR ins.

I wish more subs had XLR inputs though! Typically your cable run for your sub is going to be longer than your mains, so far more reason to use fully balanced XLR there anyway. Alas, that's not the world we live in... most of us just have an RCA cable and a sub that accepts it.

It's hard to find a reasona

It's hard to find a reasonably priced pre with the connections I need and want. I think I could use the RCA's out to my subs and XLRs to my amp and use the filters on the subs and my Lokius for the floor standers I have, with the new Emotiva. That's a work around and not the way I'd prefer. Anyone have any thoughts on that ?
Like others, I can't find any real reviews of the new Emotiva line yet.

Well, that might work, assuming the RCA and XLR outs on the Emotiva pre both work at the same time. (Assuming they would.)

If the plan is to use the Lokius to try and HPF your mains for the crossover point you want to achieve in concert with your sub's LPF, I have no idea if that particular product can cut off at the slope you want, or the point you want. I believe the lower two band adjustments are at 20Hz and 120Hz. You might get lucky playing around with that and your sub's LPF if it has more granular control like a SVS would.

There is an easy fix, an xlr to rca adapter

I use the Lokius to take some of the lows off my mains now, but my pre has sub outs whereas the new Emotiva I'd be using RCAs meant for your mains. I like the way they work together now, not sure I'd get the same result. I use the Lokius to adjust at 20hz & 120hz, on the low end and have the subs set about 120.

Grael, then what? A splitter off of the adapter for the 2nd sub ?

I was responding to "PC audio lover" whose concern was about the sub output format, not the lack of stereo ;)
But yes, why not a splitter

Yeah I already linked to that exact adapter just a couple posts ago... ;) I was just responding to Rejean's comment about waiting for a product that doesn't need one, admitting it's slightly annoying and inconvenient. No real concern from me, as I would use the adapter as I suggested.

950 bucks for a NCx252MP slapped into a box is steep AF.... These boards cost 200 Euro to end consumer here in Europe, complete DIY kit with case and connectors run you 300 Euro....

Also, looking at the internal picture, Emotiva didn't care to read the manual for the amp board and wired power and speakers on the same side of the board... What a disaster of a product.

Emotiva normally runs some sort of 10-15% sale time to time, I would think theirs's might be available around 700 - 730$.

Cheapest finished NCx252 amplifier in USA most likely is buckeye's variant @ 625$.

This SDR-1000 Modern Retro Amp seems exciting for $2,500. If the internal DAC is good, and it checks out in SNR, it's a great contender for all in one solution.

They will be offering a 500w per chan into 4ohms receiver with all bells and whistles called SDR-1000. The brand does not seem to get much attention or testing here although it's a price consciousness brand. Some it even made in the US, or so they claim. Why no love/interest here? Gene D had a massive amp from them he raved about, although they don't make it any more. I have no experience with the brand myself.

They have a history of over-promising and under-delivering on features. Their processors have seen a lot of customers flee to other brands due to poor performance. They have been reviewed here and generally perform poorly. They also have a history of short product lifecycles and then not supporting that product after they kill it off (which is what happened to Gene’s old 1st gen Monoblocks… after they killed the product they would not service his Amp, iirc).

So, basically, they rely on repeat business from fervent fanboys while disenfranchising a lot of their client base with poorly executed product and ineptitude.

To that last comment, I was talking to their tech department about the gen 2 xpa amps and they couldn’t answer questions about available wattage through multiple stereo modules while they had that info for their “monoblade” amp modules.

I took my business elsewhere and have never regretted it.

I should add, however, that I do hope they can turn around the trend of disappointment. Sadly, they haven’t shown any sign of doing that yet. It would be very nice to see them become something more than what they are and actually deliver technically competent and fully functioning product!
