There really isn’t a ‘correct’ size, there is a minimum listening distance, there is the question of how loudly you wish to play and how far away you are sitting.
Really full-range loudspeakers might excite the room but that is easily rectified, particularly when the speakers have built in PEQ.

Thanks again Keith, I think that's what I'll do nearer the time.I would always recommend hearing and comparing a few ‘probables’ in your room, but 86dB at 3.5m is not that outrageously loud.
I listen at more or less the same distance.

I'm intrigued about these smaller "6"s, mostly because I'm hoping they'll be within reach for me money-wise. However, thinking about them has brought to the front of my mind a question about what constitutes the 'correct' speaker size for a room. I notice that Genelec state what feels like very short optimal distance for their monitors (especially 833x and 834x) but companies like Sigberg seem to have wider tolerances for similar size monitors (eg SBS1).
I'd be curious to hear from more knowledgable folks about this. FWIW in my TV room I have 2x Genelec 8340 and a 7360, with a listening distance of ~3m and I couldn't be happier. I'm thinking about a new system for the (bigger) living room but the Mantas and 8Cs are out of my budget for a few years at least...
Not sure I understand.Therein lies the reason I haven't bought 8Cs from you.
Everything about them appeals, pistonic drivers, clever engineering but I want to play CDs, LPs and classical music and have a rotary volume control so without that capability they have not been an option which I am genuinely disappointed and sad about.
If a preamp exists with a remote control that isn’t a plastic pos and does have a rotary volume control on it let me know. That will be the right functionality. Not sure I understand.
The 8C has regular XLR Line in, so just add a Pre of your choice that has the right functionality and you're good to go, no?
I don't use preamps any more but I know that Pass and I think there are likely to be many competitors in that range. If a preamp exists with a remote control that isn’t a plastic pos and does have a rotary volume control let me know.
Pass aren’t on my radar here really but a quick look on their web site shows the normal sort of remote sticks, none had a rotary volume control that I saw.I don't use preamps any more but I know that Pass and I think there are likely to be many competitors in that range.
Sorry. I misread your statement. The only wireless RC with a rotary VC that I can recall was the Hafler of sainted memory.Pass aren’t on my radar here really but a quick look on their web site shows the normal sort of remote sticks, none had a rotary volume control that I saw.
Trinnov have one, but best I can tell it only works with their pro equipment.Sorry. I misread your statement. The only wireless RC with a rotary VC that I can recall was the Hafler of sainted memory.
