new DAC

Well, I don't think DACs are a huge expense. You could try DX5 II and if it's not for you then you can sell it for very little loss

yeah, maybe a second hand one that i can sell on, or a new one from a shop which has a decent return policy...

tho, i ordered an upgraded(?) power cable for my bluesound this week - will arrive next week - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/35404249...SItemDRV2_BP&_trksid=p4375194.c102726.m162918

so maybe that will yield some improvement...

It will absolutely not.

Yes, that's wasted so don't buy more expensive cables

thanks ha...least it'll match my other cables...

I'll just listen to my tunes knowing I've saved a few quid...thanks guys :)

not sure what you're saying, but i know you from other forums... :D

i saw it advertised on pinkfish media and was a decent price..

How much did those ‘upgrades’ cost how much does a Bluesound Node cost, Amir measured it here,
Wouldn’t it have been a better idea just to buy a competently engineered streamer in the first instance?

thanks, yes, I'm still not sure if DAC's do anything really? seems to be a 50/50 split from what I've seen online, but it's one of the few items i haven't tried...

i do have a mid range system and i don't think there's any difference between my node (amazon music) and my cdp which is the Cairn Fog v2.0 Soft 24/192..
Some people will adamantly push the idea that everything affects the sound despite good evidence that it cannot and should not affect the sound. Replacing one good DAC with another is a good example of where this narrative pops up.n fancy cables are another.

The people saying this are half right. Due to placebo effect / cognitive bias, everything they do does affect the sound - as they hear it - even though nothing actually changed. They insist it's not placebo, but you'll also notice they don't bother to prove it's not, 99.999% of the time.

On ASR we simply acknowledge that nobody is immune to placebo effect, so basic listening tests can be misleading, and we don't advise people to spend money so they can experience placebo effects.

i have the slightly new n130 which is better than that one (which i also owned)... but as some things do confirm - forums haven;t changed much since i last used them.. :)

If the new one is audibly transparent which you could affirm from its measurements then the items you purchased won’t make the slightest difference.
Here isn’t like other forums.

i don't really do measurements - i just enjoy the music, and people have different opinions... i asked about DACs and there was almost a 50/50 split on if they work or not (despite Amir saying some DAC's are amazing and some not)... i happen to like the bluesound and will stick with that (like thousands of others) and just want to see if i could make it better with an external DAC.. :)

Understanding measurements simply ensures that you only spend time and money on actual, tangible improvements.

There are a few stinkers right at the end of Amir’s list.
