NEW BRZHifi PAD-30 : Dual TPA3255 +PFFB @ $99

Hi.

Under real-world operating conditions (listening to music) with an amplifier featuring a single TPA3255 chip driving 4-ohm speakers, you will not exceed approximately 4.75A (verify this with a wattmeter) at a voltage of 48V.

Assuming an efficiency of, say, 90%, this yields around 205W.

The BRZHIFI PAD30 uses two TPA3255 chips; therefore, to achieve the aforementioned power output, you would need double that power—approximately 10A.

A 48V / 10A power supply would thus appear to be the most suitable choice.

This power supply works very well and is very affordable ->

separate : reduce size of the box , reduce heat and heat problem in the box , reduce probleme of electromagnetic ou perturbation of the signal , easy to change if problem ... power brick can have very very high psu level can work 20 year without probleme My sony tv 9005XE have a power brick .. not cheap 1500 e ..
Sure it is easier to manufacture. And manufacturer can swap only supply, when selling for different countries. And amplifier do not have to have safety certificate for high voltage. And power brick doesn't have to conform to many regulation for home appliances, since it is only a generic supply.
Doesn't mean it is all well for consumer.

It is all fun and I already have 3 amps with bricks. I don't install them without external power switch.

I need amps that run off a DC psu natively anyway, so always a plus for me when makers of high quality devices go that route

well... they all run off DC. The only question is how they get it.
;)

That's the only question! Everything can be modified, too. Bypass the onboard P/S and run any amp off an array of series-parallel SLA batteries chosen & wired to meet voltage and current requirements.

Heck, I've thought about running my SE 2A3 amp from HV DC batteries, since nowadays they're not hard to find.

Transformers do come in awfully handy, though.

I agree with most of what you said: but why should there EVER be a problem is my question?
I have inexpensive gear from 1977 that has never had a PSU problem.
And many other pieces of gear that has never had a problem with the internal PSU (or any other issues since new).
But I have had the (rare but occasional) power brick be off spec from the get/go or go into some failure mode.
In either case, there should be no problems. But only one type that I have owned has had problems.
And (in my case, it is not the internal ones).
But, because I have multiple many piece systems (so that individual items can be switched out at need [or just because I want to]), a bunch of power bricks are both a logistic and aesthetic issue. I do have a very few pieces of gear that use them (the MM PRO MKII PHONO stage being one of them).
As you say, many times they are very good (in the past, probably most times).

always the same old thing : YES 30 year tv work / computer / amp BUT you paid 2/3 time the price of today . ALL forget the price .. my sony 55 cm crt was pays 5000 F in year 90 , 900 euro ,2500 e with inflation 55 cm , we have LG C5 at 800 euro for 100 cm ( 55 inch ) .you have AMP class D for the price of the remote of old thing

chat gpt : SONY 55 cm 1993 : 1500 euro on price today with inflation , remote 130 euro in today price to buy a TV you pays 6,8 % of yourmonth money 93 or today : the difference : price dow by 10

Back in the 80s and 90s a relative of mine had an electronics repair shop. Contractor for a big retailer too. Amps, video recorders, CD players, equalizers, etc. - you'd wonder how many people worked there and how many units went through per week.

Times changed of course, but I can understand if someone likes external psu better. The psu is often also a problem with other long running (10 years+) appliances.

On the other hand I prefer internal psu whereever I can to reduce clutter and wasn't ever struck with more problems than usual.

When looking at these class D amps it is clear that the case would have to be much larger with internal psu. And/or they invest into a case concept with clever cooling like WiiM. Leaving this price range behind probably.

dont forget we have external psu because you can have one with classe D , 30 / 20 year ago we cannot do au power brick for 300 / 400 /500 W , no one thing of that .

but the idea is that with class-d you shouldnt need 300-500 watts right?

i think at least here in this area of ASR we are interested in tpa3255 and like even with a dual tpa setup you shouldnt need that big a psu?

I thought the idea with class D is to get the same or more power than class AB in a much more efficient way.

difficult question :p never forget what amp do : it drive speeker , and modern speeker are more and more small / or a difficult to drive ...You dont need 200 W for every body BUT with 200 W you can drive and perhaps have good music ...

200 W its 10 kg on old amp , its 100 g plus psu for amp class D

more over if you amp can stand 200 / 300W we can say at 50 it will not be hot and gave more lifepan .... the same amp but psu bigger or smaller

The fact is that they could be easily and inexpensively repaired, thus reducing landfill and other waist.
How much does the waist generated with a throw-away economy cost us on our taxes and the environmental damage?
The psu is often also a problem with other long running (10 years+) appliances.
But can easily be repaired: except that the repair industry has gone down the tubes, putting many out of family businesses and jobs (what has that cost society? And our taxes for retraining people?). And making it difficult to find competent people who could once make the "simple to them" repairs quickly and easily.
Not to mention the modern difficulty in getting the parts to do the repairs. Another cost of the throw-away society that speaks with a forked tongue the word:
RECYCLING!
Early in the automotive world, Hot Rodders were the original automotive recyclers. Rebuild, Reuse, Repurpose. Less disposal and less waste.
Cars would go through many people and families before actually being disposed of (and then: other people would go buy parts off of them).
On the other hand I prefer internal PSU where ever I can to reduce clutter and wasn't ever struck with more problems than usual.
One of my big issues with external PSU's. The aesthetic clutter. And, when changing out or moving things around (for cleaning or just changing things around), all those cords that have a wall wart (the wall wart need to be cleaned, too) and worse, the ones with the PSU in the middle of the cord.
When looking at these class D amps it is clear that the case would have to be much larger with internal psu.
Yes, and a nicer looking, larger box, with good airflow, it would be.

WiiM has you covered. ;)
WiiM has a lot of nice features.
Power is not one of them.
All but 2 of my 10 amps are capable of at least this:
NAD 2200 stereo power amplifier power into 4 ohm Peak and Max audio measurements.png

Wow, we have one kilowatt of power coming out of this amp in short duration!
NAD 2200 stereo power amplifier frequency response audio measurements.png

Response now (in green) as it should be, ruler flat to below 10 Hz, and well extending past the 40 kHz limit of this measurement.

And signal to noise ratio:
NAD 2200 stereo power amplifier SNR Lab input audio measurements.png

I am pretty sure that my gear beats the WiiM (on power, anyway).
I run all separates. A different track than all into one gear (my pre-amps have processor loops, allowing me to insert EQ, PEQ and other devices into the chain).

(I do NOT stream from any source that is not within my home and nothing in my home is connected to the internet (except this computer, which is highly controlled and secured).
My wife got rid of the TV in 2007 when she asked "Do we need a TV?" and I said "Not really."
We do watch movies on the 32" desktop monitor and the desktop's internal DVD/Blu Ray/4K disk player.
Or from my oPPo 205 UDP, which has the audio going through the stereo system (which is usually 2.2 or 4.2).

WiiM has a lot of nice features.
Power is not one of them.
Just in line with the TPA3255 box we were discussing. WiiM offers the same, but with internal psu, a slightly larger case, cooling strategy, etc. - and achieve great measurements despite packing a lot of options into these cases.

More power is always possible. And we know there is only one alternative to power. That is more power. :D

Better cooling strategies are always a plus these days. It almost seems to have become a forgotten art.
More power is usually good.

But @billou5767's dead WiiM may be an indicator that the new cooling strategy isn't working. On the other hand, his may be a fluke.
If more of them die in the next couple of months (or not) them we'll know.
