Wow, this is a high precision tool at a very very affordable price. I wonder how the software is.

I'm few years, you can find this used maybe for half price.

We'll have some sort of custom software. Hopefully a customized version of REW. The custom software will allow for things like auto-ranging and will make using the various features of the NAx1 easier and more intuitive.

That said, you could also use it as a fancy sound card. It'll be a UAC2 device so it'll plug straight into Mac and linux. Windows will require an ASIO driver, which we'll provide. We'll also provide a control panel that'll allow you to control the NAx1 from the host computer. Then add your favourite audio analysis software - including, say, AP's APx500 FLEX - and off you go.

The NAx1 will also be controllable via REST and a command line tool. We're considering adding SCPI support as well; and will if there's enough interest.

The NAx1 will be compliance tested to make sure it meets the various standards for electrical safety, ESD, and EMC. That'll allow it to be used in many professional environments, including semiconductor testing.

Depends how you read the specs and what this hardware is actually doing.
If that's just an interface, I have similar noise level in mono with the RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE for half this price...

Seems to me very very expensive - its basically a 2 in 2 out audio device with a DSP. Pretty much the same as any loudspeaker management processor. No mention of features or software which is where the value is.

DSP, MCU or FPGA for software, but after reading ^^ its actually none of this, so indeed its a simple dumb 2 in 2 out audio interface, like a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2, with PC host software.
So is better to get a "dumb" interface, how extraordinary!

This thing is closed to -130db performance from 20Hz to 20kHz. It has a built in notch filter.

What audio interface on the market is capable of this type of performance?

You need about 10 dB better performance of the DUT to be able to measure it accurately. The RME is far from this performance and the Scarlet would be deem completely untrustworthy to do any types of audio analysis with it's overwhelmingly pathetic performance.

The only one that is capable of this level of performance is the grade 0/1 cosmos and that is only a AD converter.

I think they are just joking, no way a science based community make such level of comments.

Since I have not interacted with these people before, I don't want to interpret the true meaning of their comments, but let's see if they can elaborate what they are talking about.

I have one and I use it for measurements.
The specs says 120dB SNR Unweighted at 1dBu range.
In mono (averaging 2 channels), that would be around 122dB.
That's 0.69 µV.
The specs of the NAx1 says 0.65 µV.
That's 0.5dB difference.

And in reality, when I measure the input on my RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE in Mono :
SNR (AES17 unweighted 10Hz-22kHz mono) is 123dB
Or 0.61µV (and even a bit better for 20Hz-20kHz)


Now, I suppose this one is indeed doing way more than a simple interface.

It probably features a notch filter and a low noise analog preamplifier and attenuator, not to speak about multi stages DAC and/or ADC for extended dynamic range.

But I can't find this information anywhere.

I suppose "THD Spot Measurement Mode" is using a notch.

According to the guys at quantasylum, you need at least 10dB more than the DUT in order to accurately test the DUT, which means you wouldn't be able to test some very high performing equipment.

I suppose "THD Spot Measurement Mode" is using a notch.
Yea, that is a notch filter.
