New Alcons studio monitors… So what?

In my opinion, the power amplifier should not produce noise or distortion exceeding 0 dB SPL at the listening position at any available power level when connected to a speaker. This goal is achieved with the AHB2, even when driving very high efficiency speakers. Unfortunately, most amplifiers fail to achieve this goal and that means that the music must mask the noise and distortion produced by the amplifier. Here is a paper on the topic:
How Loud is the Noise and Distortion Produced by Your Power Amplifier?
Very much a topic for discussion. Where we have supplied immersive mix-rooms with Alcons C and CRMS series, each individual cabinet has a sensitivity between 95-99dB @2.83v @1m and then you have between 30 and 60 of them in a room with <NC20 noise floor, can become a significant issue if gain structure is not managed carefully, and AES/EBU inputs are recommended - the mix-rooms and screening rooms I have all use the AES/EBU inputs on the Sentinel amplifiers and electronic noise floor is inaudible. Noted you had a Director 6 in this instance, but the same recommendation stands in terms of AES/EBU input.

The Director is a little better than the Sentinel amps and the digital connection shows less noise than analogue, but it's something I've also been complaining about for years. Not that this is an exclusive Alcons problem, same for JBL, L-Acoustics and others.
How bad is it from 1+ meters away from the speakers? is it like a tinnitus hiss? could be a problem with quiet scenes/music
