Never damaged a speaker...

Nope, same kind.
That might be six volt smoke, though.
Possibly even positive ground smoke -- chockablock with positrons.

Trust but verify.

I even tried filtering it to see if the smoke particles needed to be a certain size:

I had a steady flow of blown drivers from Totem speakers come in to the shop, specifically the Sttaf and Hawk models. Not sure if the owners were trying to overdrive the little tower speakers or if it was a flaw in the design.
I have had HAWKS for years. Great speakers. If you push to hard you can hear the driver having issues. I dont listen loud so I have only encountered this pushing the speaker to test the theory. Generally, I'm using 5 watts or less class A and the speakers have worked great for me. But I have heard of people blowing them and I have seen myself the new TORRENT drivers from Totem being blown. A pair of their small tribe, Fire bookshelves I personally witnessed bad drivers in with owners claiming they didnt do anything. I called Totem about it and got nowhere. No denial either.
