Hi guys,

I currently run kh 120s with the 750. I need a mid/far field speaker (2.2) for a bigger space I'm moving the set up to. I was thinking of upgrading to the kh420s and buying an additional 750 dsp to sit under it, like a poor man's 420+870 set up.

1) I believe you can run multiple 750s together and the DSP can handle the logic/configuration, is that correct?
2) does it make sense to run this set up together or is the ported 870 more complementary to the ported 420?
3) Aside from max power output, moving less air, any drawbacks to this setup in comparison to the 870 setup?

Cheers,

not sure if the kh750 supports dsp'ing the kh420. If so the kh750 is a smart move.

also kh420 goes down to 26hz +-3 dont know why you would want a sub for that.

The KH420 gets louder than the 750. It doesn't make much sense to combine them.

I need to double check, but I believe it does. Mostly the reason to use the sub is the dsp, but also because I have one already and because from what I've heard from others the mids and highs are improved from offloading the low range to subs (was made in reference to the 870, but point should stand)

Surely it’s a good combination, KH 750 can go deeper, below 20Hz, but more importantly it can help to unload speakers’ woofer to produce tighter bass response. Basically eveything eill be clearer. If you buy the MA1, the additional benefit will be super… eliminating room modes for example. People always think about subs as “more bass”, but no, it means just controlled “clever bass”. More subs may mean bass array. With today’s DSP assistance and clever algos it can make wonder in a studio. If room correction is used below Schroeder freq, it is safe to use and the sound remains just as natural as it was
fully analog. For everything else above there is easy room treatment (but tame the room first, DSP correction is just an add-on).

Mini DSP, bigger sub's, 120 Hz crossovers and eventually KH 310A instead. It will pass far field calibration to 88 dB (same as KH 420) difference would be a little better distortion profile in uper mids lower highs and obviously in low bass but you will have to put more effort regarding DSP. More than far feald (4 m) you really shouldn't look at; home, HiFi or monitors but to TXH cinema and pro equipment (simply tiny tweaters can't follow). Question as always is what you want to achieve.

I have a pair of KH310 and two KH750. A stereo full size system if you wish. Definitely the recently released KH8xx dsp subs are better for the 420s, but nothing is wrong with the 750 pairing if you do not need to fill a huge room with airwaves. 88dB is plenty, I mix between 75-80, many times lower, rarely listen around 90 for a minute or so but that is near temp or minor hearing damage if lasts longer from 1m. Far field is a different story… hence the 420 are good, and you only need sub to emphasize it a bit, or for correction. I bought 4 times 750 sooner than two bigger sub. They are cheaper and plenty for a normal room if triggered in array.

KH750 are already DSP-ed 10" close enclosure sub's and very good one's but their physical limit gets exhausted (cone one) in mid 30's same as with any other 10" one's. So you compromise that time domain dosent get far of with similar design with 12~13" capable ones and again aim at SPL at low 30's and shave and adjust rest with DSP. You don't need very expensive one's either, take a look at mid range SVS SB 2000, SB 3000 Pro range for starters. You don't do high crossovers for a sakes of what mains can or can't do (in 2.2 setup of course). You do it for sakes of containing impact of harmonics so that they don't propagate beyond it especially with use of ELC and that you really don't need a port extension on mains with all it brings. You get one fundamental less to worry about and bit better THD in range where they start to show (1~4 KHz). You can even go with ported sub's if time domain is not an issue (crossover will do it's job anyhow) if you want higher SPL at or below the target or bit better THD in same area but cut them with self filter right below the port tuning frequency. It's an art of making compromises.

K&M O410 + KH810x2 is amazing but I am struggling with space currently. Thinking of selling and buying KH150 + KH750. The only time I use these O410 very loud is when I screw up and half deafen myself doing something stupid with my interface.
