Neumann KH 310A Review (Powered Monitor)

This is not the 80's anymore.
Yep. The only people I know using NS10s are the old guys. Newer people are mixing on much more full range flat(ter) response systems, be that Neumann, Genelec, ATC, whatever.

It’s not the 80’s anymore? I don’t use them… so I don’t care what you say. But what I know is that modern studios still use them today, all the time, everywhere. Working professionals, not influencers.

Here is a few “not the old guys”…. That have made countless records and continue to do so, by using NS-10’s. I can find many more examples of… not old dudes using them if you’d like more proof?

NS-10’s were made and designed as Hi-Fi speakers, not studio monitors by the way. If you want to disagree with me on that also, I have proof ready (I’ve been down this road many times)

Again, I don’t use them personally. I just know a lot of working engineers do still

I think a lot of people that are used to them still use them; more commonly as a reference check / palette cleanser than a main mixing speaker though. You can see the ATCs Sam uses in the picture or HXC guy got some bigger Adams now I believe.

I didn’t notice that. I’m not a huge fan of AMT’s (I have two speaker sets that have them) but it’s good to see him step aside from NS10’s.

The most interesting thing about NS10’s to me, is how people would feel the woofer with their hands to balance the kick to the bass guitar or bass in general. Had I know that trick, I would have tried that ages ago because that’s cheap fun right there if you ask me

Genelec 8000 series is 19 years old
So who knows when the new Kh310 would launch lol

some of the 8xxx series are at 4th revision so they're quicker to update and do it more often. On the other hand KH310 is already a revision but of Klein + Hummel O300, which were updated Klein + Hummel O98, which were updated Klein + Hummel OY, which were the first 3-way active monitors in the world back in the 60s. OY were in production for 20 years, so it can still take them years to release mk2 of KH310

The Genelec revisions are pretty small
Same cabinet, same drivers
Just different amps

That's not entirely true.
I think there's more too, but it's still relatively minor changes, I will have no issue if both kept their 10 years old model and just update the amp or caps to what is available nowadays, chips replacement are much more frequent IMO

For listening to music for enjoyment purposes, after using 120II/750x2 and passive B&W m801s3, I would think the 310/750x2 will be somewhere in between. That could be my final audio setup.

You may have mentioned this earlier, but how far is your listening position? When talking about the various KH and Genelec monitors, distance is an important factor.

2m to 2.5m.

You know, considering the absoutely tiny internal volume of this speaker (16L by Neumann's own spec) and its sealed design... how much EQ boosting is being done in the low end? I'm guessing it's quite a bit, probably as high as +10dB at points.
