Network converters ?

...(Reed-Sternberg error correction)...
Reed-Solomon. Reed-Sternberg are the pathognomonic cells in Hodgkin's lymphoma IIRC ;)

Ok, this stems from another forum were someone was asking how he could improve his streaming quality to match his CD.
My reply was I didn’t think he could significantly improve his streaming, because I believe digital is a pretty much sorted medium.
Anyway, it was pointed out to me that I was talking “ Absolute Bollocks”
And some sort of network filter was the answer, so I posted on here to see what the evidence for this was. And it turns out, there isn't any, or so it seems.
Ask the idiot why all the banks do not use these 'network filters' on their networks when there are trillions of pounds at stake.

Last but not least: Why stream what I already have on CD? (in my case, FLAC)
If you already ripped your CD, chances are high it’s stored on some local server, and you’re using the network to get it to your DAC.

I got my ripped audio/video stuff offline, as well as almost all documents etc. Windows is not allowed online any more at my place.
For online duties I have Linux Mint.

But anyway - even if some streaming stuff may theoretically be above "red book" standard, I will rather not hear that superiority, with my 58 years of age. So I wouldn't even bother to compare. An exception might be multichannel - but I am back to stereo since 3 years.

Good call! Sorry I was thinking of Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Are you a medical practitioner?
Yes, and a former academic teacher, but a self-retiree since 2022.

Well that makes two of us. Former lecturer and clinician, retired in 2019, went back to work because of the pandemic. And now semi-retired since 2023. Weekly clinics, some locums, and occasional lectures.

Three (Salt). There are probably more "in hiding", the white gown mafia is everywhere

BTW: Do you know what a medical miracle is?
When three doctors reach the same conclusion, after examining a patient.

Ah, I love me some "expert" trying to sell you a solution for a problem that doesn't exist, while scolding you as clueless when you object.

The word is "charlatan".
Or, sometimes, "politician" - for problems that exist, but he has caused them first, to later "heroically"eradicate them. :)

Too many examples of that lately... but let's leave it at that. ;)

This dude here isn't even an expert charlatan. It isn't a good sales strategy to be rude towards objections from a potential customer, let alone getting personal and calling them dumb or some shit. You're supposed to stay polite and counter with elaborate, convincing pseudoscientific arguments!

If I was ruthless and amoral, I'd make a much better snake oil salesman than that. Simply because I know the tiniest bit of utterly basic psychology and manipulation, just like pretty much everyone of us. :p

And that's why I increasingly tend to be "deliberately deaf", despite my "teacher genes".

My internet is Virgin cable and I use my Bluesound Node wireless and then a TP link to the Hegel. Would one these be any benefit to me using this configuration.
Even though the Hegel is wired, it’s not directly from the router.
I find it fascinating that there is WiFi in close proximity to the audio path, and yet there is concern about 'noise' on the Ethernet.

Hmm...

Sometimes I want to strap line audio, speaker, ethernet, USB, and power cable together over the full length with velcro strips or something. Make a neat bundle of everything, then listen to the result. Sounds like a fun little experiment.

It’s not noise you can hear, that would be to simplistic. This is noise that can’t hear, but it degrades the sound quality.
Just ask him to show a noisy line in, followed by the reduction in noise after his device. But it he needs to show how he is measuring so it can be reproducible. He won’t of course.
If you do this he will wriggle and squirm. His acolytes will appear and start personal attacks against you trying to get you to answer irrelevant questions.

More chance of getting a reduced membership at his gym.

I did, but when you’re talking Absolute Bollocks, they don’t seem to want to listen.
Which is fair enough I suppose. Apparently you don’t need evidence, the price should tell you it works. I mean who in their right mind is going to pay loads of money for something that’s serves no useful purpose?

Have you come across this guy before?
You’re spot on.
