Hello there! I'd like to buy SMSL VMV D2R + P2 + T2 stack with external clock, but have a few questions about it.

I was looking for SMSL G1 clock and their site tells me I could possibly use it with D2R DAC, but there's no 10MHz in BNC on the back of the DAC, the only BNC is used to connect BlueTooth antenna.

Is there any reason to buy any external clock in this case or D2R have decent clock inside and there's no way I can connect G1 to the D2R. Thanks!

Btw, my current setup:
Cayin iHA8 + Cayin iDAC8 with HD800S. Don't know is it valuable upgrade or slight downgrade, SMSL seems pretty good in terms of specs and etc

Unless you work in a studio, you don’t need an external clock. The DAC doesn’t even support it.

As for an upgrade, I don't expect anything in terms of audio quality.

Great, got you, thanks! I'm not working in studio, just wondering is it possible to connect all this pieces together. SMSL said it will work fine, but in my case its doesn't make any sense, right?

I've read enough info about clocks and stuff, but all this "audiophile" BS drives me crazy, need to hear someone normal I guess XD

The note that there is no need to buy anything else from what you have right now, except for maybe a cheap CD player, if you really need that.

Of course, there is some reasoning to be found if you want to have a nice-looking matching set of devices. Just know that it's for features and aesthetics, not for sound quality.

The main idea is to buy good-looking set of devices and that's it. I'm not pretty sure I need them tbh, cuz my current setup doesn't look that bad to swap it and all this "Clock idea" around it - just another "reason" to try something different, maybe we can call it schizo xD I was looking for Cayin CD's, but nothing matching current devices, so I've decided to try SMSL with their VMV line

An external clock for Hifi enjoyment has (limited) purpose only if your source device (SPDIF) or DAC (USB) is excessively poorly clocked.

This review illustrates that nicely:

I cannot imagine that being the case with the SMSL DAC, though you can check their jitter graphs to make sure.

If that's clean, then buying an external clock would actually degrade the performance somewhat as the distance alone between clock and DAC chip is disadvantageous.

When you have hundreds or thousands of digital sources real-time switching and mixing to hundreds or thousands of digital destinations across a campus, a highly resilient precision master clock is essential.

Domestically it's unlikely anyone will build a setup with sufficient sources and destinations and real-time switching between them to justify a master clock. Even if you have a desktop setup AND a listening room setup AND a home theater you are extremely unlikely to switch and mix them together.
