Hi,

I’m researching for my brother. He is looking for a preamplifier for 2.1 channel system. He is using a newly purchased vintage McIntosh amplifier, plays music in FLAC via USB from laptop.

Budget less than $1700

Must have:
Remote volume control
Digital I/O’s
Tone controls
Well reviewed
New

Preferably: American company

Anything out there that satisfies this list of must haves?

Thank you for your help :)

Bluesound Node Icon or the new Node with Dirac Live.
Both devices can be expanded with up to four Hubs as required.
Those are nice, but not looking to stream or expand to other hubs.

The most sensible solution that comes to mind is the RME ADI-2 DAC FS.
If you also want to connect analog devices, you will need an ADC or use the RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition.

A HUB is designed to expand analog and digital inputs if the internal ones are not sufficient. It is not necessary to use the built-in streamer. The most interesting function here is the built-in Dirac Live.

I always forget about these new devices.
A Wiim Ultra would cover everything perfectly, at a fraction of the price of other solutions.
- Active high-pass and low-pass filters for 2.1
- 10 channel EQ
- Digital and analog inputs, including phono
- HDMI ARC to also output TV sound
- Control via optional remote control or app
