Need advice on migrating from JBL LSR305 to KEF LS50 Meta

These are probably good ideas, but I have a very small room to fill - 12x10 feet. I would say the amount of bass from the LSR 305 was more than adequate (if only it were more articulate). I'm worried that in such a small room even the R3's bass would be too much, let alone separate subwoofers. There's no dedicated space for them.

There is no such thing as to much bass. Maybe the simplest solution is ls50s with a sub, adjust the sub to tast. A better. Solution is some form of eq. Using rew with a calibrated mic works well. If you go with an SUV’s sub with parametric filters you would be on course to a good system. R3 meta would work well too.

Just one thing to add - subwoofers can be places smarter for room acoustics and EQ, than mains can. So by adding 2 subwoofers, you benefit from a lot better chance to EQ the total sound, so that it fit better for any given room, placement of the system and your listening position.
Of course this require EQ, which I do not know if you possess.... so do you have some kind of DSP in the system?

Before making any adjustments with the equalizer, I plan to initially measure the room acoustics with something like the umik-1 measuring microphone. However, I have not yet decided on the speakers themselves.

Above around 500Hz - just look here... they already measured for you - even in great detail :)

Below around 500Hz - measure measure, and explore :D Just remember almost never to boost - go for a setup/placement, where you primarily cut. Because if you have a suck-out, it's most certain a cancelation, which you'll never be able to boost your way out of ;)

I think for your room size, the LS 50 Metas should be more than fine, but I do believe you would benefit greatly from a sub. The SVS SB 2000 (Original) frequently comes on sale for around $600. It has both a low pass and a high pass built in, so no need for an external crossover if you don't want one, and it will more than match any volume output of the Metas. I personally have 2 Metas and 2 SB 2000's with Dirac DLBC, and I think they sound very good. You won't get rock concert levels, but more people rarely, if ever, listen at those levels if they value their hearing. My room is 12' x 12' x 8', so quite comparable to yours.
