I had one of these and it became distorted and produced weird, crumbly sound after a few years. Online reports of similar problems abound. So even if they did everything right, you can skip this one just because of reliability.
The aesthetics of the unit are terrible—buttons, knobs, plugs, and lights all over the place. At the very least, they should be lined up on the same plane. The record level knob looks like it was randomly placed as an afterthought—which it probably was.
The selector switches should have been another type. Or why not on the front so you don't have to go dig your finger between all your cables when it's already connected?
Thanks Amir. I hope my NAD PP2 is better than this. At the price point, you'd be better off with an Art DJ and a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. seems Parks Puffin reigns in the phono pre with ADC category.
If you want the absolute best, a Metric Halo LIO-8 with mic modules or a ULN-8, with a MIO console for the RIAA equalization will probably get your there. For those who like a tube sound you can add the +DSP software and alter the sound to your hearts content. It is way overkill, but one also gains the benefit of 8 excellent DAC & ADC channels, digital x-over and DSP, and it is still much cheaper than "high end" phono preamps...yea, but still overkill... it has a remote
In fairness, I should point out that a Metric Halo solution would require them to modify the mic inputs for those who are not comfortable making the necessary changes themselves.
Probably you are having a case of "Chromostereopsis".
Among we oil painting dilettantes we talk of red color as an "advance" color and blue as a "recede" color.
Why rely on subjectivity when you can measure it? The red curve reaches two pixels higher and lower than the blue one. It also has a horizontal offset of at least two pixels.

I owned the PP2 for a while, but gave up on it because every other Pre I purchased for curiosity was way better sounding subjectivly for me. Miserable Transients, no sense of spatial correctness. Tonality and practicability are ok.
