NAD M33 V2 (with MQA QRONO and FOQUS) and NAD M23 V2, both with 2nd generation Purifis

The dealer sent me his M33 (first gen) by mistake. But it's probably the best. I have been listening to it since Christmas. That way I can maybe notice a step up with the M33 V2 easier. What I can say is that I could easily live with the normal M33. It sounds great :)
I'm pleased you like the M33 V1, but I'll be most interested in your opinion of the V2 when it arrives.

Apart from its slightly better DAC, a second generation Eigentakt amp technology, the inclusion of DLBC and a higher sub output level - all probably of little benefit if not t a sub user - I am expecting you may be hard pressed to define any improvement - but I hope you can!

I'm considering a move from M66 plus power amp to M33 V2, but only if the old M33 features are retained – for example the ability to send artwork to a HDMI-connected TV and a remote that adjusts the volume in 0.5 dB stages. The SRM-1 remote operating the M66 is very poor and excessive volumes can result far too easily. Good luck.

Yes got the M33 and was wondering if upgrading it would make any sense!

My price difference between M33 and M33V2 is 1250 Euro. If I would have directly gotten the old model, there would have always been a voice in my head saying "why did'nt you get the V2" ... if I had the M33 already, I don't think I would bother ;-)

Agreed, BluOS is dreadful
I’ve no stability issues with Bluos. Very reliable since using it with M33 v1 from way back when. It did provide a learning curve though and is a bit clunky to access the ‘audio settings’.

Ooooh kay so I've had my M33 V2 for a month now.

Sounds beautiful, it really does, but there are some niggling firmware issues;

1 - Pops and bangs from my 2x subs on startup. This is really common with AVRs and streamers early in their lifecycle, and can usually be fixed by a simple firmware update, but it's annoying that a NAD unit that is simply a revision of an existing architecture hasn't fixed this already.

2 - DIRAC refuses to load sometimes. I can't figure out exactly what's happening here but BluOS seems to think the speaker configuration has changed (for example, BluOS will default the configuration to just 1 sub) therefore DIRAC switches off and disappears from the menu. I deleted BluOS from my device, which seems to have fixed the issue.

3 - Source detection doesn't work and sources need to be manually set. For example, when ARC sources are switched on, the unit doesn't automatically switch over. My old M10 V2 unit detected sources flawlessly. Probably this can be fixed with a firmware upgrade.

4 - As mentioned, DIRAC Bass Control is not available with this unit. NAD are cheeky to market the unit as having the feature, when it does not at the present time.

I can *just about* live with these issues but I hope NAD push some fixes out very soon.

Got mine today, and it pretty much sounds perfect to me, even without Dirac and without the use of tone controls. I've been listening to it for about two hours and all I am going to say is that sounds like the M33 I've had on loan since Christmas. I am really happy with it :) No problems so far because I have floorstanders with no subwoofer and am using Roon.

Edit: The V2 is faster when loading Tidal playlists. Guess they maybe updated the CPU.

So no need to upgrade then?

Good to hear from someone with a month of experience with the M33 V2. You mention a few niggles, but coud I ask a couple of qiuestions I raised in an earlier post that have not yet been answered?

1. If you connect the unit to a TV via HDMI cable and select HDMI as the TV's cource, do you see the album artwork, etc displayed on your TV? The M33 V1 offers this feautre, but the newer M66 does not.

2. How sensitive it the remote control's volume adjustement? With my M33 V1 that uses the HTRM2 remote, each quick touch adjusts the volume by 0.5 dB. With my M66 using the SRM-1 remote, the volume changes by 2 or 3 dB for each quick touch and it's all too easy to find a massive volume increase. I believe the M33 V2 is supplied with the SRM-1 remote, so this feature concerns me.

Many thanks

Like I already wrote above, you can use the Bluesound RC1 remote, as it does 0.5 steps. The SRM-1 also does 0.5 steps. Comparing RC1 to SRM-1 I still like the RC1 better.
