Hey,

I am shopping for a new amp and have my eyes peeled on either the NAD M10 v2 or the NAD M33. From a feature perspective, the M10v2 would be enough for my needs, but I am worried its rated output of continuous 100 watts into 4 ohms might not be enough for my Dynaudio Contour 3.3 (rated 300 watts, 4 ohms, 88 db sensitivity). The M33, on paper, would be a much better fit, but it costs more than twice as much.

What do the pros here recommend? Should the M10v2 be capable enough?

I might add that I typically listen at moderate sound levels, I hardly ever go beyond 90 db or so.

Thank you!

In that case the M33 should work fine unless you're listening far from the speaker. If you're within 6 feet or so, 100w is more than enough. 1w gets you 88dB, so you don't even need 2 watts to pass 90. If you tend to listen quiet, and you're not further than 10 feet then IMO 100w is fine.

You can play with some numbers on this calculator: http://www.hometheaterengineering.com/splcalculator.html

Oh, and welcome to ASR!

Thanks for the welcome :)

I do not always sit down in front of my speakers. Sometimes I wander around the appartment or cook in the kitchen about 10 meters away (around 33 feet). According to the calculator, even at that distance I would still get over 90db. Interesting!
