I lost enthusiasm for Star Wars after The Force Awakens, which IMHO felt so tired, like they had run out of ideas and were just going through the motions, rehashing a lot of concepts from the original trilogy (Empire->First Order, Death Star->Starkiller, etc.).
BUT I have to say, I love the Mandalorian. So many of the elements just echo the kind of things that drew you in to the original trilogy. Remember when Jedi were "knights" (not just action hero politicians with glowing weapons) and had some kind of mysterious culture that was just hinted at? The Mandalorian is a totally different type of person than the Jedi, but the helmet and armor just feels like an old-school knight, and they hint at interesting bits of a complex culture (the "Armorer" as a kind of high priest/priestess) mixed with small little elements that remind you of old cowboy movies (learning how to ride, shootouts in the town square, etc.), the dark cowboy with a checkered past who comes around to doing the right thing but still has enough of an edge to dispatch retribution to those who cross him.
There's a big budget Chinese sci-fi movie that recently came out called "The Wandering Earth" that's kind of interesting, a mix of Michael Bayish action with a very different cultural approach. Goes on a little too long, but different enough to merit watching if you have the time.
