first of all ill start with the Hifiman Edition XS, i used autoeq for my EQ options however i found it didnt sound very nice so i made modifications to taste...
The Hifiman Edition XS have a very nice neutral sound and they dig into the subbass very nicely, they have lots of detail, i found this mod a very good improvement to the sound https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...man-edition-xs-insane-mod-measurements.61089/ (all you need is some cotton to stick underneath the earcups and you're set), these are tricky to properly drive given that they are Planars, if you dont give them enough juice, they will sound poor and distort at higher volumes, despite being a fairly low impedance.
now for the Sennheiser HD 599, i used the EQ provided from autoeq for this one and didnt need to adjust to taste
i found the HD 599 have a harder slam in the bass and have a much warmer sound, but they do lack some detail that planars offer. they are much easier to drive than Planars and will be fine on just about any output
