My Dog - pet thread

No, this is a common dog name in Germany. I don't know if Zappa would have liked it.
Maybe

This is my golden gang, with the beautiful Luna (10yrs) at the front, followed by Ralph (8) in the middle and Cooper (3) bringing up the rear. They're a fun and joyful bunch of pups.

I go slow for you…
Look here brother, who you jivin' with that Cosmik Debris?

No, you don't have to, as already written, it's a common dog name in Germany.
No derivation from Russian space travel, no derivation from Zappa.
I rather think you don't know who the quote in my signature comes from.

Ella was a champion.

She died two years ago at the age of 15.

My children grew up with her as she came to us as a young puppy.

I loved her very much.

Our good boy Murphy on a recent camping trip. He's 50% Pyrenees and 50% three different kinds of bulldog according to the DNA results.

How does one get three fathers?

I can picture the male dawg saying, “that bitch - been running around”.

Usually it seems more common to have steps of 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 etc.

No, it has something to do with heredity and nothing to do with three fathers.
In this genetic profile, the dog probably descends from two parents, one of which is a purebred Pyrenean dog, while the other parent is a hybrid of Bulldogs. This second parent is then probably already a mixed breed whose ancestors are made up of three different types of Bulldog. It is likely that one of his parents was also a bulldog mix that was crossed with another bulldog species. This results in the following ratio: one half of the DNA comes from a purebred Pyrenean dog parent, the other half from a parent in which three different bulldog species have been mixed.

Yes, I am no genetic expert, but I believe this is the case.

For my dog, the DNA results showed pure breed Pyr's on each side - One parent and grandparent was a Pyr , and then bulldogs were in the mix with the other parent / grandparent.

Dog genetics is fascinating and if you have a mixed dog I recommend getting the test - we used Wisdom Panel's basic test that was relatively inexpensive and provided a lot of information about descendants. If you give the OK, they will also match you up with other testers who may be relatives of your dog (no personal info is given, just general location and a picture if there is one, and educated guesses as to the relation, like sibling, etc.).

As an aside, Murphy's personality is mostly Pyr although he can be more aggressive / higher prey drive than a typical Pyr which is probably the bulldog side of things.

“Nobody loves his dog more than the man who initially did not want one”. Applies very, very much to me and Lyra.
