My Dog - pet thread

Oh, yes. It was her first day with us.
She obviously missed her siblings,
and had to get used to the new surroundings. That's why she looked so sad.

I started this thread in 2021. On Sunday I lost my pal, the love of my life way too early. The surgical Vet said she had a tumor that burst and there was nothing they could do. So Sunday Mar 23, at 7:15 am, 2025 I said goodbye to my best friend. My wife and I are gutted with grief. Our time with our fury friends is way too short so enjoy every minute you can while they are with you.

I guess I haven't paid attention to this thread in a while. So sorry to read of your loss, I remember how torn up I was when I lost my Rottie and I'm sad to say that I waited too many years to replace her. My GF wanted another dog so I told her to pick and what a job she did - Pickles has been my shadow since the day she came home with us. (don't know why the screen got blurry all of a sudden)

Our little monster, loves to hug and cuddle. Mix between Rottie, Bordeaux, Doberman and Dogo Canario. Looks mostly like a brown rottweiler, but a bit larger and with a longer body. :) Three years old, I already dread the day he leaves us.

I have a Borzoi, she has her own musical taste. ... Maybe its the female vocals. I don't know.
What about your pets?
I went down a (dogs + music) rabbit-hole for about 30 minutes (should have used a ChatGPT).
In a 2025 "Is Music Therapeutic for Dogs" posting, American Kennel Club opens the discussion with:
Studying how animals perceive sound is the focus of an entire field called bioacoustics.
In recent years, sound researchers have even teamed up with musical composers to develop soothing melodies that can relieve stress in dogs....
The innovative work of otolaryngologist Dr. Alfred Tomatis is the basis for audio sound therapies designed for dogs. These soothing melodies trigger immune responses that help with repairing tissue and fighting infection.
There are some interesting new-ish factoids/findings; one summary in Reddit states:
Dog prefers reggae and classical, cat prefers jazz and death metal
All our house pets have always been on strict rock-n-roll diets and each led a happy and energetic life.:)

OT: Would it be considered crass [?] to decide against a rescue-puppy... when you are just too (damn) old to outlast another family pet?
Yes, this discussion came up a few weeks ago.
I attempted to gently ask my better-half to not bring up this conversation again.

I think we should take care generalizing. Different dogs like different things. My Lucy likes quiet. Zeno is much less sensitive.

Not if you want one and make suitable arrangements. I don't see anything wrong with having a dog when you pop off so long as it will be taken care of.
