My amps output, have I measured correctly?

Hi All

Been wondering if my Topping LA90D is man enough for my Ascilab C6Bs, so took some voltage measurements. First of all, it sounds OK, in fact it sound better than OK!

I usually have my Topping Pre90 at -22dB, which averages around 70-75dB at listening position, with peaks maybe 80dB or so. For my measurements I upped the Pre90 to -10dB (which would be uncomfortably loud) to replicate what would be peak volumes. I ran a frequency sweep at this level and recorded around 2V at my speaker terminals at low frequencies, rising to around 5V further up the frequency range. At the low end of the spectrum I have some -ve EQ going on to correct room modes.

This is what I thought:
  • The 2V reading is where the C6Bs have an impendence close to 3 ohms, so I'm drawing less than 2W/channel (V*V/R), which is not much at all, but probably dragged down by the -ve EQ.
  • At the 5V level I'd be drawing less than 7W/channel, given a nominal speaker impedance of 4 ohms.
This is well within the amps capabilities, so I'd shelve any plans for an amp upgrade, but it does seem incredibly low, so am asking the community if my method seems correct.

Edit: Well, the specs for the C6B are [email protected]/1 metre, so perhaps my measurements were what I should have expected, and just confirm I don't need tons of power.
