Music You Strongly Dislike (Just For Fun)

99% of Modern country and 85% of RAP/Hip Hop
You must be a hip hop fan :D i reconn 90% of everything is crap , joking aside i listen to some hip hop and RnB but mostly ladies , thier lyrics is often more mature and uplifting so I kind of get it ( yet another song about guns and hoes does not interest me ). And modern auto tuned mumble rap could be better done by AI and come of as more human and sincere .

Everyone gets their opinion I guess but hard for me to see how someone would hate the best output of bands like the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, U2, Bob Dylan, Prince, some others listed here. I find mostly that bands and artists are not able to consistently produce the best, greatest material. It’s almost like an accident producing stuff that really gets the listener melodically and stylistically — it all falls into place for a brief moment or period and then it’s gone.

Genres:
Tap (is it a genre? :) ). As a drummer, most of it is horribly sloppy for the sake of "Whiz-bang" foot and hand-waving optics.
And while I have old-school metal at my aging roots, I can't stand the growlers either.
Opera - too boring.
C&W - Pass.

Otherwise I'm pretty cool with most stuff from poppy to complex to relaxing to aggressive. Love big+fat productions with big, tight, low bass...

Santana
Nine Inch Nails
Rammstein
Eagles
Green Day
Linkin Park
Limp Bizkit
Celine Dion
Ed Sheeran

All the overproduced pop tracks beloved by Harman fans (that are nevertheless not as revealing as pink noise):

Anything like this:

Yes, Death Metal! Me think basically any no talent can do that! Don't need to be able to speak Queens English too as people just can't understand what you are singing, right? Growling don't need any decency. Yes?

Another is Rap music!

Pretty much all Teletubbies.

Death metal, most rap (esp gansta rap), most achormatic modern composition, chinese opera, a lot of c&w, soft rock, smooth jazz, christian rock, most soul music, insipid pop music, a lot of dance music, ....

There are exceptions to most of those, and really I do like some music ;)

Yeah none of this in you list is even in consideration in my musical life…. though some abstract composition interests me. There is so much good music (music I like I should say!) and so much music for other people of other cultures and other values ( bad or unpleasant music by my values).

Messiaen's Turangalîla Symphony.

It annoys me with its silly mannerisms.
A fearful waste of time.

REO Speedwagon
Fleetwood Mac
Bruce Springsteen
Guns and Roses
Grateful Dead
most country music (new style is worse) and todays "pop"-rap

There seem to be plenty of threads on favorite music: best female/male vocalists, best songs by era, discovered artists, well recorded, favorite this or that... but I've seen no threads on music you hate, or dislike if hate is too strong a word. Something you will turn off if it starts playing or you will not listen to.

I had a friend in the late 1970's and early 1980's that absolutely hated Jethro Tull. I don't know what it was about Tull he did not like but he would react violently if someone played Tull. We all knew it. We had another friend that tried to provoke him one day by playing Aqualung when we were partying together. This Jethro Tull hating friend jumped up, grabbed the record off the turntable, and pitched it across the room. It was hilarious.

So you're reaction does not have to be that severe but is there any music you do not like?

I'll go first...

1. Bob Dylan: I absolutely hate Bob Dylan's voice. It is physically repulsive to me. In my opinion he simply cannot sing. He should have stuck to the songwriter part of singer songwriter. He writes beautiful songs but ruins them by singing them.

2. Creedance Clearwater Revival/John Fogerty: John Fogert's voice grates on me. I cannot stand the nasally, whiny quality of his singing. A definite no for me. CCR put out some good songs but I simply cannot listen to them.

3. Conway Twitty/Merle Haggard: I have a very good friend that loves these old twangy country crooners. I cannot stand them. They don't grate on me like Dylan or Fogerty but they'll put me to sleep within minutes.

4. Metal with growling lyrics: I cannot stand growlers. Grrr - makes me cringe. Hate it all.

I know opinions are like a--holes, we all have them and they all stink except our own. These are my opinions. Care to share yours?

Which artists do you dislike?

Martin
Well I agree with you on point #4, even though I've not been directly exposed much to your other hates! Generally I can find something in most types of music that I can tolerate or kind of enjoy, so I'm not an ideal poster here, but I agree with you on point #4, there's only a few times I've been subjected to point #4, but I do like the Metallica Black Album which I don't equate with some other metal tracks where you can't even understand the lyrics because they're screaming, it's that latter point that would make me switch it off! But nope, I don't have music hates, and I'm not an overall forgiving loving person of all things in life, but I guess I'm pretty tolerant music wise!

That's just funny (hence the like I gave you), but I'm sure I heard something by Dolly Parton on the radio the other day that I didn't hate, even though I don't own or purposefully switch on any of her music!

Three songs, Stairway to Heaven, Free Bird, and Hotel California, that I hate because they’ve been so over played on FM radio.
(I still like those but never play them)

Yes, Death Metal! Me think basically any no talent can do that!
I have no desire to know what 'death-metal' really is.
I also gots no talent what-so-ever, unless you would consider standing on a stage - and in front of a crowd - while soiling my pants talent.

How did I miss this thread?! ;)

I've always loathed Country. All of it. (OK, maybe some exception for the occasional HW (elder, not Jr.) or PC, but very occasional.)
And while talented, I'm not a fan of Easy Listening crooner-types. Mind, I'm OK with some Sinatra or the like, but then there's a point where it loses its Jazz-appeal and becomes elevator/Pop- music.
Smooth Jazz.
Elvis.
The Lady's taste in Hip-hop (what I refer to as Strip-Hop, Dirty South, and Lil Kim/Megan thee Stallion/Nicki Minaj/Cardi B etc)
Dub versions of Dark Side of the Moon. (Dub side of the moon was cool the first 2 times I heard it 15 yrs ago... but after that...)
Coldplay.
Most modern Pop.
Anything with Autotune or similar production effect applied to vocals.
The Duck Dance from any wedding reception.
Christmas Carols or related music.
Any instrumental music that has vocals added to it at a later date (ie. Leroy Anderson's Sleighride).
Musicals. (With the possible exception of JC Superstar.)
Mash-ups.

Hmmm...

I think that's enough.
Thanks for the therapy session!
:D
