It makes you wonder if the cloud people do a bit-for-bit comparison on all the duplicate music files that people are uploading and only keep the one copy. But charge you for the full file size, of course.

Agreed! I think that is what Apple is trying to do with iTunes Match. It certainly would make the upload shorter!

De-duplication is alive and well in cloud storage. It makes sense and you are paying for the ability to store your 50MB file. Doesn't really matter how it gets done.

Hmm. I wonder since most of us collectors have unique metadata embedded in the files.
